MayozMinecraft doesn't really use much recourses. There's not much Jeb can do about performance without nerfing basically a lot of the game. 10 or 15 FPS isn't good at all, invest in a new computer.

Actually, it requires a lot more resources than you'd like to think. The way Minecraft is designed (a block based game, with everything being blocks and large pixels) you'd think it wouldn't take much, but it does. Why? They've used pretty much the same (or fairly similar) game engine since they started (or at least since the release, 1.0.0), thus adding more and more content on to the game with the same skeleton. Let's put it this way. As an adult, you have a great skeleton and muscle setup for your body weight (lets assume around average), but somehow (not going to specify how) you start gaining weight at a rather fast pace. Your body isn't being given the time to strengthen up and properly carry all this new weight. Eventually the whole system breaks down and movement is next to improbable. This is similar to what's going on with the Minecraft code right now. We're getting all these awesome updates, but they're adding all these without allowing the game engine to be coded properly to handle all these updates, thus putting too much weight (heh) on the engine. In Beta 1.2/1.3, the game ran BEAUTIFULLY fast, even on my crap PC. With my new one (3.00 GHz Quad Core i5, 8GB RAM) and all the new updates, its slower than it probably should be.

Now say what you want, but personally I'm annoying with everyone that develops Minecraft for not keeping the game engine up to date with the content.

If price and size is an issue, build it yourself. You'll often be able to get a high-quality machine for a fraction of the cost from a pre-built machine. Newegg is a great solution for this kind of stuff.

Here's a DIY PC Kit from Newegg for around $500. Powered by an AMD APU (CPU+GPU). http://goo.gl/LxnP6x

Here's a nice list of a high-power PC powered by AMD as well.

Do what ya want though, just do it smart. And if you still need a laptop for school, just get a cheap one like a Toshiba Satellite for $300. Cheap but good quality. A friend of mine is able to get MC running decent on his Toshiba. His custom build PC is better though.

I'm laughing at the Chromebook. It's a machine designed for the WEB, not for any sort of gaming. Also, have fun not being able to use it without internet if you shut it off already.

Gaming Computer? 8 gigs of RAM mixed with a 2.5 Ghz processor is not a gaming PC. If you're willing to take on the task, you could easily build your own high-quality PC for very cheap.

Or, if you want, there are a large variety of freaking JESUS gaming PCs that, although are very, VERY expensive, would be very, VERY worth it.

Before you decide on a PC, determine what you want to do with it.

@Cookies - Seriously, learn to spell. If you want to apply for staff or a job anywhere, spelling becomes your key element. Forget that, and there it goes.

@lorrana99 - Once you (or Siz) get the server running on 1.4.6, PM me or something so I know and can hop on.

EDIT: @Person above me - We are not accepting staff applications. IT SAYS SO EVERYWHERE! TITLE, OP, AND EVERY OTHER POST THAT WE HAVE DENIED FOR THE SAME REASON! LEARN TO READ PEOPLE!!!

Best wishes to you all, and a happy new year! -over.fritz

Seems like quite the "business" you have here. If you supported CanaryMod (www.canarymod.net) then I would be all over this, but you sadly do not. It has shown that it consumes less than Bukkit, and from what I've done with it, significantly easier to use because it provides a variety of things Bukkit does not have built in.

But still. Let me know if you might be willing to allow CanaryMod just in this one case. I can provide all files as well if it's OK with you.

What's it for?: Pretty much to form a small, reliable community of friends I can trust to play with. I have a couple, and would keep this as small as possible to make it all fit. Once we get enough people on board who would be willing to donate moneys then we would transfer to another server that would be large enough to fit our needs. So if it all works out as planned, eventually the server spot would come back to you, ready for another user.

Maybe use an Economy plugin for 1.4.6? That would make it so you don't have to worry about the whole diamond thing, because you would have to sell them, and we could set the prices up where buying the item costs more than selling it.

We also could just use Emeralds for economy, considering that's pretty much why they were added was to form some kind of economy in the game.

Last I checked, staff are not being accepted.

Dzine - I'll try to hop on tomorrow, is the server 24/7 or close to it? I'll try to find a 1.4.4 copy thingy that I can use, might just have to downgrade though before I hop on.

    xD two head admins.

Perhaps having someone on staff (Admin/Owner) manage a diff. section of the server might be a smart idea. One on security, one on the server's tech & plugins, and one on just about everything else. It's an effective method.

lorrena - when I get my new computer for Christmas, I'll have to run some tests to see if it will work. My current one is too old to run a server efficiently.

I would love to host, but I really can't. Also, have you guys considered using Dropbox to store all the servers data? It works, and it's all free. When someone needs to host just tell them to download Dropbox, login using some credentials (server related) then host. Keeps stuff clean and data is always transferable.

lorrana99 - I hear you need a host. There are some great hosts out there that host for cheap (like, cheap) and they all are really good. Try googling "Cheap Minecraft Server Hosting" or something like that to get a good idea.

    Here's my Builder App. \/

    Age: 14, almost 15.
Maturity 1/10: 9-9.5. When stuff needs to be serious, I'm serious. If it can be relaxed, so am I.
Builder Past(Pictures please): No pics, but if you visit "mc.anticraft.info" (no quotes) and type "/visit overfritz redstone" (again no quotes) you'll see some of my more recent builds.
What are your talents?: I'm always looking for something to build, and for me inspiration can come from literally anywhere. From a simple lamp to something as complex as a train, all of my various styles come from something.
Are you good with world edit(if we get it)?: I know almost all W/E commands by heart. There is not one command I can not either a) Easily figure out, or b) Use quickly.
Can you build quickly?: By hand, most certainly. With WorldEdit, even faster.
Are you ready?: I'm ready all day every day!

    Age:(11+ for staff positions) 14, almost 15.
What position would you prefer? Staff (Mod/Admin) but Builder would be cool too.
Why should we choose you? I have experience as staff on 2 servers, plus I have run a multitude of home servers that all have, over time, died off, but they were home servers, run from my crap computer.
Do you have any past experience? Few months as a moderator on a once-popular server called Our-Craft, and still staff on a server called DarkServer.
Do you consider yourself mature? Significantly more so than other people my age. I'm not 100% mature, however I am really close to it. :3
How much time do you have to come on the server? Depends on the day. About 2-3, maybe 4 hours most days, but over weekends when I don't have stuff going on, or on long breaks (Winter Break, Summer Break, etc.) I should have 6-7 hours of time.
Are you dedicated? Why? I will be very dedicated to this server as I have to the other ones I play on. I give each server my full attention when I'm on, and when I leave the attention leaves as well to the next server. Every player that needs help gets help as soon as I possibly can.
Anything else? This server sounds really promising, and the owners sound super nice. I want to be a part of this new beginning and a part of this new server to help push it to its limits, to help players push themselves and do things they never thought possible.

Yeah, that's a pretty bad Graphics Card. On my PC I have an ATI Radeon, which isn't bad, but isn't great either. I can run Minecraft at about 30->50 FPS on Normal, 20 on far. Making it Short or Tiny actually worsens it for me (My computer is weird).

If you're thinking about an upgrade - consider a few things first before you do.
    Click to reveal
First, what will you use this for? Gaming? Work+Gaming? Etc.?
Second, what kind of OS do you want? The OS is easily the second thing you should always consider after you decide what you want to use it for. For Gaming, Windows 7 or 8 are good, as they both are new enough that pretty much all games should work with them (Windows 8 has Desktop Mode, so it's like running 7 in 8), and some flavors of Linux are good for Gaming. For more work purposes, you should get an OS like Windows 8 or OSX. Linux is NOT a good work PC.
Third, how much are you willing to spend? If you aren't going to spend a lot, you will need a lot of deals, promotions, and such to get a high-quality PC into your hands, or you can build one yourself that's even better than the market's PCs for about 500-700 USD.
Finally, how much crap do you intend on putting on your PC? If you intend on having a lot of files on your PC, you'll probably want a hard drive with lots of space, maybe even a SSD. 80gb's of space or more should be plenty.

I do hope that I helped.

Though the bill hasn't even been passed yet, what makes the U.S. Government so powerful?

My guess: Americans are more likely to agree than disagree, therefore the Government can get it's way very easily. In Britain, they are like "That's Rubbish!".

Reality: We have failed our founding fathers. "We the people of the United States of America..." Blah Blah Blah. Most people should know the Preamble. Doesn't it say that it was written for the Future in mind? Yep. And we think it's "outdated".

It's not like I hate my country (Yes, I am American, though is there such a thing?) but America gets it's way with a lot of things.Especially the Government. If you look at California and other states whose Education programs "entitle" one to everything, you see what America does behind the scenes. We create adults that believe they are entitled to everything, even if they shouldn't be.

But not everywhere is bad, if you look at Arizona they tried to pass a law that says the Security Guards may check a Hispanic for proper information. Many voted for it, but few actually support it. Interesting how something many wanted is actually very un-liked.

Imagine what would happen if the Government destroyed the servers of our States...*shudder*...It's terrible what they would do...*imagines darnation*

Sorry for the rant, but at least it's informational.
