I was once on a private server with a bunch of friends.
Well I had a nice house with obsidian protection, locks, and traps. But people refused to stay out. And when they got killed by a trap after breaking in, the admin got mad at me and claimed I was griefing by setting up traps. I told them if they stayed out, they wouldn't get killed. But they refused to listen so I ended up having to move. A trip through the nether across dark cobble air bridges was how I got to and from town. If someone attempted to make it across the bridges, they usually fell off one of the very misleading ledges. And if they did make it to the end, they still had to bypass a massive gauntlet, even then they had no clue as to who built it, as nearly everyone had nether portals.
I then visited the town every so often and build a new trap. They would get curious and enter, then they were killed by the trap. They still had no clue who was doing it.
