Was fortunate enough to learn about Minecraft back around 1.6 Beta on the recommendation of a friend, has been a mainstay of my life ever since.
Always loved builds that have an eye for RP and immersion. SOI is my holy text. I play Goldenage mods like BTA and Reindev mostly nowadays.
(if you have the same connection to SOI or other old RP series like that check out LyinginBedMon on youtube, they have several series in that vein and they're awesome.)

2011-2015: I was very focused on building and played vanilla. Got really invested with that early building culture like Madness64 and Jamziboy, FyreUK... I am still heavily influenced by those oldschool building principles today and still reference builds of this era. I have immense respect for the early builders of this period like Circlelight ect. Spent this time downloading cool texture packs from this very site and obsessing over them

2016-2022: was my modding era. Leaned towards adventure/fantasy mods. I was chasing shadow of Israphel still lol. I stopped keeping up with the latest version when I couldn't run 1.13- but could run heavily modded 1.12. (<- beginning of the end lol) Had personally long given up on the vanilla game being the kind of game I had hoped it would one-day become, but modded kept me around.

2023: Played vintage story- bad mistake for someone sentimentally attached to Minecraft lol. Playing a block game with actual game design was a mind altering experience. I could never look at modern Minecraft the same again. I do strongly recommend VintageStory if you're on the fence, but be aware the potential consequences.

2023-Today Playing VintageStory awoke a craving I haven't felt since I was a kid- actually wanting Minecraft to be designed sensibly from a building gameplay perspective and with a consistent bright beautiful aesthetic. It did not take long for me to find the like "OldSchool Renaissance" (to steal an RPG term) of people going back and playing Beta again. Ya'know Dialko, Boxblair and them. Beta versions have too many wonky shortcomings I experienced firsthand though that although I feel the gameplay was better in general in those OG versions I'd first loved it wasn't what I was after exactly.
Then I discovered the Goldenage conversion mods. First ReIndev, then BTA, NSSS, Legacy +, NFC and all the others.
I was hooked, probably forever.

Going on three years I have only played these conversion mods and see no end of that in sight, not even my old beloved modded 1.12 build gets much attention these days. BTA especially really is just what I actually wanted minecraft to turn into as a kid, and re-awoke that love of the game I haven't felt since watching videos of airships on an aging netbook under a blanket on a snow day. Some people will say that feeling is just being a kid, I am here to tell you that those folks are fools, and sorely mistaken. So much pf that feeling of obsessing over the game came from the tighter design of those old versions. If you'd asked the tween version of myself to imagine the most optimistic future for Minecraft in the distant year of 2025, I would have essentially described BTA to you. Meanwhile, other mods like ReIndev bring their own wonderful visions to fruition to similarly positive effect. All great mods, all heavily reworking the core mechanics of Minecraft to turn it into the focused building game it was destined to be all along.

Worth the wait. Give these conversion mods a shot if you haven't already.
