IL-2 (ИЛ-2)

The IL-2 is a Soviet attack aircraft of the Second World War, created at OKB-240 under the leadership of aircraft designer Sergei Ilyushin. The most massive combat aircraft in the history of aviation, more than 36 thousand units were produced

Serial production began in February 1941 (A. I. Shakhurin's Order No. 739 dated 12/14/1940),[​3] they were manufactured in Voronezh at plant No. 18 (in November 1941, the plant was evacuated to Kuibyshev). The IL-2 was also mass-produced at aviation plants No. 1 and No. 18 in Kuibyshev, at Aviation Plant No. 30 in Moscow. Of the total number of Il-2s (36,163 units), 70.6% were produced in Kuibyshev — 25,545 units. For some time during 1941-1942, the aircraft was produced by plant No. 381 in Nizhny Tagil.
