Welcome to the forum page of TimeTraveler, the ONLY mod that allows time travel in Minecraft! This mod currently includes the ability to go to the past and future, create paradoxes, and generate useful items from the paradox you collect on your journeys!

To start in TimeTraveler, find a Paradox Structure. In the altar in the center is a Paradox Cube; you will need NINE of them to make the Time Machine. On top of the Paradox Structure is a chest containing a Paradoximer; you only need ONE. Once you collect all nine Paradox Cubes, put them in a 3x3 crafting table in a square pattern to create the Time Machine!

To travel to the future, right click with the Paradoximer in hand. This will open up a GUI with a few buttons and a text box. Enter the number of years you want to go to the future, and you're good to go! Do note that the more years you're traveling, the longer it will take! To travel to the past, right click on the Time Machine to enter it. Right click again to open up the GUI. Click on the time zone you want to go to, and click Travel! Also note that the most recent time saved is still being written, so DO NOT go to the newest time zone!

Time zones are saved under the "/mods/TimeMod/" directory. For the future, one time zone is equivalent to one "year". One time zone in the past is equivalent to 1200 ticks in game. Time zones are an aspect of this mod that are definitely going to be expanded upon in the future; at the moment, they are simply a way to track and categorize the times, but eventually controlling and maniuplating these Time Periods will be a crucial part of the mod.

When a player destroys or places a block, the type of block, metadata, and coordinates are recorded and saved in the player's .ppd file (more on those later). When the player travels to the past, they will see themselves placing and destroying blocks EXACTLY as they did before. Tracking blocks placed by mobs has not been implemented, but should be due in the next couple of patches or so.

Movement, held items, thrown items, and head rotation are all tracked for replaying during the past. The player, upon traveling to the past, can see themselves moving around, throwing items, holding items, looking around, and doing the normal things players do. Currently, ONLY THE PLAYER is being tracked; in the next few patches mob tracking will be implemented.

A paradox will happen whenever a player mines a block. Every time a paradox occurs, a bar in the upper left of the screen increases. Each block has it's own "value" of paradox; for example, mining one diamond ore could equal 80 paradox, while one cobblestone could count for 8 paradox. Breaking a Time Machine will INSTANTLY kick you back to the present. When the player's paradox bar becomes filled, the player is sent back to the present with no paradox. If the player manages to return to the present by letting time run out, they retain the amount of paradox they obtained. Paradox can be collected from the player by using a Paradox Extractor; an Empty Bottle is necessary to contain the paradox, however. Once the player has bottled the paradox, it can be run through the Paradox Condenser to form Condensed Paradox, or to duplicate items. However, as soon as the Condenser is closed, all excess paradox is diffused into timespace, so be sure you have a good amount for what you want to do! Paradox will be used in useful items and blocks in the future; expect some in the next few patches. Due to paradoxes having occurred, however, negative events will begin to occur. The more paradox, the worse the consequences are.

Current Paradox Consequences:
Paradox Hunter:
The mob stats are as follows:
Move speed: 25% faster than the player (0.75F)
Attack strength: 5 hearts
Max health: 20 hearts (twice that of the player)
Armor value: 20 (full armor bar)

The mob has a rare drop of 1 Condensed Paradox.

These also spawn naturally (very rare).

I have an idea for ur next update
U could make it so like let's say u saw a creeper coming towards u and u desperately needed a diamond sword.
All u would need to do is craft a Reminder List by having 8 paper surrounding an ink sac in the middle. Then u right click it and ur future self is there with his/her time machine, and they walk up and give u a diamond sword. Then all u have to do is once us in the future u travel back in time and give itself the diamond sword

Hello!  Sorry I havent been on here that often, been busy with life.  I'm having some severe difficulty with updating the mod from 1.6 to 1.7, so I might just keep it 1.6 until it's in a working state then update.  I have been managing to keep the post on the MCF updated most, so it might be worth your time to head over there until I get the time to update here.

UPDATE PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!
This mod is so cool! Keep it going!
Also, just something random, I saw 3 structures right next to each other. LOL!
EDIT: Actually, there were 3 that were within 4-5 blocks of each other, and then there was a 4th that was about 10 blocks away, along with a 5th about 30 blocks away. A 6th one that was also 30 blocks away spawned right in a tree. xD
Those structures seem pretty common!
its not letting me travel to the future

UPDATE: I'm redoing a many of the blocks with a new model. The TimeTravel block will be replaced with a 3D machine, and a few other things are going to be changed. I'll try to get pictures up when I have the content implemented.

It will work the same way single player works.
Good mod. Stay strong, you can do it!
Really awesome mod, but I have somequestions (sorry, but you really got me interested)
  • If your past self picks up an item from the floor, butyou go to the past and steal it before he picks it up, does the previous one dissappears from your inventory when you travel back to present?
  • If you kill a mob in the past and get drops, do you loose them if you save/kill it in the past?
  • Do you have to find or craft the paradoxcollector and condensor?
  • What happens if your paradox bar is full?
  • Can you break the Paradox cube and place it elsewhere?
  • Can you only travel to the past with the Paradox cube and future with paradoximeter?
  • Can you travel to the future from the past and vice versa?
  • How far forward can you go and does going too farhave consequences?
  • If you build half a bridge from one side, than go to the past and build the other half, can you go back again and see your selves build it (when it gets fixed)?
  • How many times can you visit the same period without problems(if you don't interact whit past selves)?
  • Will there be multiple "Time shrines" generated in a world, or just one near spawn?
  • Isn't it really easy to just mine diamonds in the past and then duplicate them with paradox this creates?
  • Will it be possible to implement it in multiplayer?

Multiplayer idea (not saying you should do it, just want to know if it is possible):

Different "timelines" being different dimensions and being updated each time a player timetravels (if a player builds a tower in the past, the other player will have a tower appear in his "time"wheneverhetimetravels (the world updates to machthe past))

The blocks placed in the past would either
  • override (the first/last one in the timeline stays, others drop as an item)
  • destroy(turn into air)
  • "tempofrag" (turns into a specialsupersolid block)

any blocks that would be placed in their placein a later "time".

The first two questions probably will happen eventually, but not for a while. You will have to craft the condenser and extractor. When the paradox bar is full, you are killed and other miscellaneous things happen. I haven't decided if you can move the paradox cube. Yes. You cannot travel to the future from the past. You can go as far as you want, but it takes longer to generate each time. Eventually. You can go to the same period as many times as you like. There will be multiple of the shrines generating. It will take a lot of paradox to duplicate an item (in the thousands, which means 10 or more trips to the past with a nearly-full paradox bar). It will be possible to implement in multiplayer, but it isn't initially planned for release.

PROGRAMMING UPDATE:
So, while I was working on past pathfinding, I realized that I had to despawn all mobs, prevent them from respawning, and then spawn in my own. As it turns out, there is a gamerule that allows this, so I decided to just auto-enable it when you past travel.

Happily, it seemed that this would keep mobs from spawning, but I couldn't figure out how to foricibly despawn all mobs, but I decided that this small thing isn't a big enough thing for me to focus on: I wanted to get the major mechanic to work before doing the smaller stuff. The last thing that was left was to spawn in all the mobs at their origin and to have them move to their appropriate points. As it turns out, this was more complicated than I thought, and is, for some reason, broken.

The odd thing is that this actually reads from the .epd file like it is supposed to and all the data is preserved, but it does not stop when it is supposed to by the looks of the console output. I've been looking into this, and haven't really discovered anything that is wrong with the code, so I must be doing something wrong, but the question is what....... The really weird part is that the mobs don't actually spawn server-side: I believe that they are being spawned in, but only client-side, so they aren't synching with the server and therefore aren't existing. However, I have made a little progress towards fixing all this.

I've really only been focusing on that lately, as it seems to be a rather requested feature to be implemented.

Cool idea but how about if you try to prevent a bad moment and the future is altered.
Shouldn't you add a mission GUI as in you can create missions and you make a few as a start.

  • June 24, 2013, 2:15 pm
What do you mean by missions? I'm not sure that I understand the point of them, as they would break the sandboxy feel of Minecraft and my mod.
i mean like you make them and you pre-make them.
so like if you want to prevent something.

I don't think that would fit the idea of the mod. It's designed to be a sandbox mod, not an Aether type mod.
Again not what i mean.
I mean you pre-make the missions and the user can make ones of there own.
It adds a new feature and does not devalue your idea, it adds on to it.

It still detracts from the sandbox-y nature of the mod: the mod is aimed at being a more sandbox experimentation mod, not a mod that gives a reward for behavior following a certain pattern.
Okay, I get it now but maybe you could reconsider.
[END OF CONVERSATION]
(I just don't need a reply)
P.S.
