Hey guys! This is a single input gravel detector that I'm sure someone will find useful. This design allows you to drop 1-6 gravel down a chute and receive an item based on how many gravel you deposited. I use wool in this project, but you could use weapons, armor, food, or potions for any survival maps you create. And it does not matter whether you use sand or gravel for this device.

Enjoy!

I have compacted some of the redstone wiring so it is not such a mess.

I am not sure there is a way to differentiate sand from gravel, but the intent is to dispose of it either way so it should not matter whether they give you sand, gravel, or a mixture of both. You can, and should, replace the wool with other items if you use this in a survival world or server of yours.

Not very complicated, but pretty brilliant idea, would be great for adventure map puzzles.
