With this sleak and simple redstone device, one can use a 3x3 piston door - with a minecart! When the door is opened, a rail is put in place so minecarts can go through with no problems. It works with every type of rail.

The dimensions in blocks are 8 x 7 x 3 (Width x Height x Depth). The contraption does need a small 3x3 tunnel out of solid blocks on one side. It powers with a lever or a repeater into the "input"-block.

It should work in Minecraft 1.13+
