In 1987, the Mytishchi Machine Building Plant began designing electric trains of a fundamentally new type for subways, building on some of the developments and the concept of the type I carriages. As a result of the long work of the factory team in 1990-1991, an experienced five-car electric train with the numbers of cars 001-002-003- 004-005, which received the commercial name "Yauza".

Initially, the composition of the 81-720 / 721 cars had a standard collector traction drive, but at the end of 1992 it was equipped with an experienced asynchronous drive for the development of the Dynamo plant. Tests of this train were carried out on the experimental ring VNIIZhT in Shcherbinka near Moscow. For the adjustment and testing of the Yauza, the Institute specialists converted a traction substation for feeding subway cars with a voltage of 850 V. Since there is no contact rail at the railway test site, an electric current collector (pantograph) was temporarily installed on the roof of the train. It took some time for the adjustment works, and finally in the summer of 1993 the traction-energy tests took place.
