The idea is that the players are playing D&D and every encounter is played by the players in the world of D&D.
example: The players encounter a goblin *teleport* now the players are fighting the goblin *teleport* now they are siting around the table again.

You could do a sort of giant dungeon (only the interior) with multiple levels/floors, custom mobs, custom items, objectives... And you should use a themed resource pack (Conquest by MonsterFish or Dokucraft are awesome packs ;) ).
