Gyulafehérvár (Alba Iulia) was once the almighty capital of the principality of Transsylvania. This state, despite being an Ottoman vasall, could raise amazing culture with an extraordinary achievment of the human civilization; the freedom of religion, first in europe. The court of Gyulafehérvár flourished under the wise and rightenous Gábor Bethlen (1616- 1626), who brought the golden age of Transsylvania.
The principality became famous of it's humane peace and rich culture that had to be constantly defended against several invaders and threats; it became known as "Fairy Garden", as a magical fort of civilization in the raving rampage of the never-ending ottoman wars.

I wanted to picture this glorious past, viewed through the myths of the folklore. I wanted to create a gate that opens into a brighter, more noble world, with towering, ornamented porches and roofs, ordered tiles of marble and carved poles of wood; almost like in a fairy tale.
And of course there is some national romanticism in this build too. The national greatness has once enabled different folks to live together in divine harmony under the rightenous rule of honest and pure leaders. The hungarian peasants, the székely warriors, the romanian shepherds, and the german civilians could unite their forces to turn the freezing, mountainous Transsylvania into a Fairy Garden that knows no match ever since.
