For your enjoyment today I have my first submission to PMC: A Good Start.
This map is a simple and elegant start to any survival experience or exploration. With your life raft waiting just off-shore, there is food, wool, lumber, and a free chest to get you started. Less than 100 blocks away is the wood-line which leads into a lush forest which gives way to a dense jungle and formidable swamp.

The changes made by these mods were saved with the game and therefore there should be no problem playing this on a version of Minecraft without these mods loaded. Please let me know if this proves otherwise.

Map "Secrets"
Take a boat and head north of where your life raft is towards (x:180, z:80) and you'll find a zombie raiding boat. Their loot isn't very good, but it's zombie pirates after all...
