With this simple 10x10 design and about 40 blocks of TNT, you can quickly dig a pit deep enough that anything will die the second it falls in. Afterwards, said pit can be used in traps or to make a floating house with the ultimate defense while still being ground level.

*Please Note* Under the four TNT blocks is an empty hole about 10 blocks deep. Anything less and you risk blowing yourself up along with all your redstone devices.
