isn't gravel/sand finite. so you have to keep loading it

Yea you have to keep reloading it unless someone came up with a sand or gravel generator.

I know of a sand generator, although it only creates sand drops, you would still need to reload.

you could do something very similar with cobblestone that is infinite. but requires lots more pistons
