"Bismarck" was Germany's largest battleship during World War II. It was named after Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, and was built at Blohm & Voss in Hamburg. Together with the sister ship "Tirpitz", it was the largest battleships built by a European superpower.
The ship's deployment was 41 700 tonnes, it had a crew of 2 200, length of 251 meters and a top speed of more than 30 knots. It had eight 38 centimeters weapons with a range of 35,000 meters and 81 smaller weapons, mostly anti-aircraft weapons. It was commissioned on November 16, 1935 and launched February 14, 1939. The ship was baptized by Mrs Dorothee von Loewenfeld, chancellor Otto von Bismarck's grandchild.
