Bunker Hill Monument is a historic granite obelisk in Charlestown, Boston, Massachusetts, commemorating the Battle of Bunker Hill, fought on June 17, 1775, during the American Revolutionary War. The monument was completed in 1842 and stands 221 feet (67 meters) tall, making it one of the earliest monumental obelisks in the United States.



Despite its name, the battle actually took place primarily on Breed's Hill, where American colonial forces fought British troops in one of the first major battles of the Revolution. The monument was built on Breed's Hill to honor the American soldiers who fought there.



The monument is made of Quincy granite and contains 294 steps leading to an observation platform at the top. It remains one of Boston's most recognizable historic landmarks.
