Level 41 : Master Architect

WANTED! I'm looking for a smaller (custom) island with a more or less uniform climate zone. I want it to become the celtanean kingdom with Celtanis as capital city. Ideally the landscape has mountains and caves, so I can get creative with the additional villages. If you know any suitable island/landscape, please send me a PM containing a seed, download or link where I can get in contact with the creator. I'll give credit if your PM leads to the final landscape used.

I give you my one and only minecraft project, build in singleplayer vanilla creative in 5 years.

--o[ Celtanis ]o--

This ancient massive city is the metropolis of an old high-tech culture, the Celtaneans. The idea was to create a working and well-looking city, which misses no aspect of an epic metropolis. It is fully player sized and reaches from the crystal over the Palace far deep down to the underground. There are more than 1000(!) furnished houses all over the city for all the inhabitants.

TLDR: This city has a whole bunch of features in it, which you will probably miss if you do not read on. If you don't mind, just get the map and start exploring. But for all those who want to know what this is all about, welcome to a kinda short explanation of each ring and district.

Download Hint
The map may crash minecraft on opening because of its pure size. So I recommend to change the JVM-Arguments to at least: -Xmx4G -Xms4G (=4GB RAM, that is what I use).

The map was tested in Minecraft 1.11.2. It is highly recommended to also use 1.11.2 to play this map. ;)

In case you still run into performance-issues, here is a version of this map where all redstone-clocks are off, so the map should run much more smoothly.
Small City Guide
As a tribute to Emily who got lost in this city, here is some guidance to prevent such fate: xD

Coordinates: 800,63,976 will teleport you right back to the Southern Gate.

Message-System: Search a manufactory of your choice (e.g. the Cattle Farm is very close to the sourthern gate). Request an item, until you get the "is empty"-message. If you click the manufactury name in this message, you will get teleported back to this manufactory. So you can start exploring with this message in your chat, beeing only one click away from a manufactory you know.

Main-Streets: Each ring has a main street running around the entire city. If you stick to those main streets and explore the city ring by ring you should be able to see a lot of it while always knowing where you currently are.

Spectator Mode: Switching to Spectator Mode and fly up will always help.

The whole metropolis is organized in rings:
City Wall:
The massive wall forms the most outer ring, enclosing and protecting the whole city.
Outer Ring: Right behind the city wall is the Outer Ring, containing farms in the west and the underwater districts in the north and east.
Lower City: In the middle, we have the city itself enclosed by the old city walls. These walls separate the Lower City from the outer ring. In the Lower City you will find causal workshops for the normal daily life of a Celtanean.
Inner Ring: From the Lower City, great staircases go up to the Inner Ring, where the more advanced laboratories are located.
Palace: At the top and very center, the Palace raises with it four mighty towers.
Underground: Underneath all these overground structures extends the enormous undercity with its caverns and dungeons.

You will find many different districts in those rings, each dedicated to one aspect of the Celtanean's daily life. As one of the special features of this build, the name of each district will show up on entering. To give you an idea of how compact this city is, let me give you a "minor" information about each ring and district.
City Wall
The massive wall has protected the city for centuries now. It reaches from the high crenels all the way down to the bedrock. Behind the shiny surface stands a solid, survival-proof, self-repairing wall, making any siege attack pointless (especially TNT-cannons).

City Gates (Overground): The giant gates of the eastern and southern wall protect the city from unwelcome intruders. These massive gates are actually functioning. Each gatehouse owns two gates, which can only be open alternately. So all incoming or outgoing travel has to stop at the inner or outer gate for a checkup. You can use the bridge control at the top of the gatehouse to en- or disable the energy bridge, which spans the moat. The gates can be controlled from ground level or at the top of the gatehouse. If you find yourself inside the moat, look for these eastern or southern entrances, there are ladders on the outer wall so you can get out.

Harbor Gate: The harbor gate at the outer northwest wall does not only open and close, it also raises or lowers a bridge to form a canal so ships can enter or exit the city. The gates can be controlled from the outer harbor or from the top of the gatehouse.

City Gates (Underground): Not all entrances are above ground. There are also four underground gateways, one in each of the four cardinal directions.

Underground railway: Above each underground city gate is an underground railway station. The railway moves counterclockwise around the entire city. So pick your destination and grab yourself a minecart at the "Departure"-station. There are not just boring tunnels, I promise. If you manage to lost your minecart, watch out for buttons on the walls. They open secret passages to leave the railway tunnels.

Supply Chain (Entire City)
Throughout the whole city you will find a lot of different facilities, each equipped to produce a certain item. Celtanis supports a supply chain of nearly 100 items. Click the image below (5 MB!) to get a detailed diagram which facility requires and produces which item. You will find these facilities in their corresponding districts.

Animal Breeding (Outer Ring)
In this district cows and chicken are domesticated, to obtain meat and other resources from them. There is the dairy farm for milk. Next to it is the henhouse with a chicken autobrewer. The autobrewer has two modes, so you can choose if you want your chicken cooked or raw. Below is the slaughterhouse for fresh beef. A special feature of the slaughterhouse is the countdown timer, which can be started each time a pair of cows was set to love-mode. So you can easily see which pair of cows is ready to enter love-mode again, and when. At least we have the brazier here to cook all the raw meet and get it well done to the central storage (see below).

Dairy Farm
Military District (Outer Ring)
The military district is dedicated to enforce law and order in the city and the whole kingdom. The barracks with their armory are located here, as well as the training courts for melee and range combat. In each training court you can choose the difficulty you want to train and get experience as reward for a successful training. Under the barracks is the dungeon with more than 100 cells for all kinds of villains and criminals. The stables and a small paddock are also part of this district.

Drill Ground
Agricultures (Outer Ring)
The agricultures provide the citizens with all kinds of vegetables, each one cultivated at its own farm. Needless to say, the melon and pumpkin farms are fully automated. The fields of the wheat farm can be harvested automatically each one on its own. The two windmills can be activated to spin in the wind, thanks to command block magic.

Carrot Farm
Wheat Fields
Deep Sea Corridors (Outer Ring)
In the northeast are great corridors deep below the water surface. Apart from these caltanean architectural master pieces, this district mainly consists of living quarters. Most of them grant a spectacular view at the submarine wildlife. At the bottom is the Sandpit, where sand is quarried to supply the celtanean glass kilns.

A deep sea corridor
Underwater View
Submarine District (Outer Ring)
West of the Deep Sea Corridors you can find the submarine district with its great halls and underwater living quarters. It extends from the north-west to the south-west of the Outer Ring. First we have the squid tank here, where squids are hunted by domesticated guardians for their ink. The great sugar cane silo, the smoke house and fishing docks are also located here. To grant access to the canals of the Lower City, we also have a (functioning) lift lock here, which connects the port entrance with the lower canals of the inner city.

Northern Submarine District
Southern Submarine District
Botanic District (Outer Ring and Lower City)
In the south-west we find the botanic district which occupies a part of the Outer Ring as well as the south-west Lower City. The tree nursery, the sawmill and carpentry are located here. In the Lower City's part you will also find parks with fountains where you can chill and relax.

Tree Nursery
Workshops (Lower City)
The south-east Lower City is dedicated to the hard working Celtaneans, having all their workshops distributed across the 3 floors of the Lower City. The Ropeyard, Shears Manufactory, Glass Kiln, Bowyer's Workshop and many other facilities are located here, producing nearly every item used for everyday life. Between all the workshops you will find the houses of those busy craftsmen, living and working here.
Bowyer's Workshop
Name Tag Workshop
Scholar's District (Lower City)
In the north-east of the Lower City you will find the Scholar's District, expanding up to the Inner Ring. This is a place of wisdom and knowledge, where all the incredible technology of the Celtaneans was researched and developed.

Sanitarium: Coming from the workshops, we have at first the Sanitarium for the sick and ill. In the center there is a (functioning) healing chamber to cure all physical pain instantly and for free. If you feel exhausted or stressed, feel free to pick a bed and stay there for a while until your mind is refreshed.

Grand Library: Next to the Sanitarium is the Grand Library. Each floor of the library is dedicated to another topic (tools, armory, weapons). In one of the library's lower rooms you can enable the enchanted-books feature. With that feature enabled, nearly every chest in the library has a small chance to have an enchanted book in it, fitting the floor's topic. On the 4th floor you will find anvils and enchantment chambers to enchant your tools and weapons.

Observatory: On the Inner Ring of the scholar's district, we have the Observatory which activates itself at night and then grants a small glimpse into the depths of the galaxy out there. So go up the high eastern tower and look through the telescope to try it out yourself.

Academy: The Academy is the large building, connecting the Lower City with the Inner Ring. The Academy is a building of great knowledge and easy learning. As long as you stay in the Academy building, you will gain a small amount of experience, if your level is below 10. This feature can be toggled at one of the upper two lecture halls.

Grand Library
Harbor (Lower City)
The Harbor of Celtanis lies on the north west. It is connected via a canal with the outer harbor gates. In the harbor itself the shipyard is located. Inside the harbor district there's a lot of living space for all of the seamen sailing the oceans. In between you will find the harbor warehouse. At the end of the warehouse there's the "Stacking Chest", which stacks unstackable items so the seamen have more room aboard during their journey.

Docks with Shipyard
Dam (Lower City)
In the west the Dam separates the Lower City from the Outer Ring. It has two barrages which can be opened and closed individually to control the water flow.

Dam Outside
Dam Inside
Brewing District (Inner Ring)
The entire west Inner Ring is the Brewing District. This is the place where the caltanean alchemists mix their potions. All kind of strange laboratories can be found here, where all the ingredients for those potions are manufactured. At the west we have the great hall of brewing with it machines, where potions can be auto-brewed by everyone.

Brewing District
Brewing Hall
Tinker Town (Inner Ring)
The south-eastern Inner Ring contains the workshops of the engineers, dealing with physics and explosions. Next to their workshops and living quarters you will find a TNT-Cannon (working of course) and a full laboratory to build all kinds of fireworks (including a tower to launch them).

Tinker Town
Fireworks Laboratories
At the top of Celtanis rises the Palace in all its glory. Its hanging gardens and large halls has given home to the royal family for hundreds of generations. On the eastern wing of the Palace you will find the court, where justice raises its voice and fair sentences are passed. The celebration hall is located at the west wing, where large festivities take place. The throne room can be reached if you enter the city through the South Gate and walk right ahead all the way up.
Each of the four towers of the Palace are mighty machines. The grand symbols at the top of each tower indicates what the machine's power is.

South East Tower (Eye): The tower at the south-east contains the "Astral Manipulator". You can use it to gain an astral body (=Spectator Mode) to move through the world freely. If you want your old body back, simply fly to the upper chamber of the tower, where the process will be reverted.

North East Tower (Command Block): The north-east tower is the "Command Tower". It uses the power of Energy Crystals (explained later) to change global conditions, like Fire Ticks or Mob Griefing. You can even disable Ender Pearls or TNT here. Each action of this tower consumes energy, so make sure you have a bunch of Energy Crystals ready if you want to use it. It also has an energy reload system which automatically refills Energy Crystals, as long as you have some in stock.

North West Tower (Sun and Cloud): This tower contains a weather manipulator. Climb up all the stairs to the top chamber to enforce the weather you want and choose how long you want it.

South West Tower (Sun and Moon): The tower at the south west corner of the Palace contains a time freezer. Choose any time of the day that you want the world to be frozen in. Alternatively you can also unfreeze time here. Watch the water stream at the center of the tower. It will tell you if time is currently frozen or flowing.

Palace at night
Inside Palace
At the north of the Palace floats the Sanctuary, only connected to the rest of the city by a bridge of energy. Legends say, it once came done from the heavens and the city was build to reach it. More serious historians are sure the Celtaneans are pretty able to build floating structures, and dedicated this one to worship and praise their one God.
In the bottom area of the Sanctuary you will find the living quarters and teaching rooms of the priests and novices. At the top you will find the Temple itself, fully diamond plated and dedicated to the one almighty God. You have to push the correct button to get access to this holy place. (I'm myself a christian, so no surprise that you will find some kind of cross in there ;))

Great Pyramid
Below the Palace, at the bottom of the city, you will find the Great Pyramid. With its large stairs and waterspouts it is the cultural center of Celtanis.

Shop: In the lower outer corridors a shop system can be found, where you can buy items using your levels. Feel free for a shopping tour, if you can raise all the experience it takes. If you have none, a sell-system offers you the opportunity to sell 8 items to gain 1 xp.

Storage: At the upper level, the central storage is located. It comes along with an autosorting system and digital storage technologie (scoreboards), allowing to store 2,000,000+ items of each type. All items of the celtanean supply chain are supported. Each manufactory receive their items (and sends their output) to this central storage.
Click the button below an item to get one out of the storage. If you want an item to keep in storage and don't be used by a manufactory, you can lock it.

Message-System: A message system tells you, whenever an item is locked or out of stock. The cyan parts of the messages contain tooltips, so open the chat and hover over them with the mouse. Whenever you see the gray text "Click to teleport there", you are able to click the cyan part and teleport to the corresponding location instantly (Be aware that the message source itself often also offers an option to teleport you back to it). This way you can move around in the city quickly if any item is missing and you want to craft it fast at the corresponding manufactory.

Great Pyramid
Message System
Great Forges (Underground)
If you enter the Underground through the southern stairs and turn right, you will find the entrances to the Great Forges on the outer walls. There is a southern and a eastern hall. Each one contains six individual forges, where all kind of tools and armors are crafted.
Between those halls, you will find a great cave with the living quarters for all the hardworking blacksmiths and their families.

Great Forges Hall
Forge to craft Horse Armor (Custom crafting)
Mines (Underground)
In the north eastern corner of the main underground cave, you will find multiple entrances to the Mines. Beside an enchanting room, you will find multiple "Ore Generators" in the mine shafts. Each generator will be able to create one kind of ore from pure energy.
Once charged with an Energy Crystal (see below), the generator can run four times, generating a random amount of ore, which then can be mined. The amount of ore per iteration depends on it minecraft given rareness. So you will get less diamond ore from the Diamond Ore Generator then you will get coal from the Coal Ore Generator. The generators itself are located vertically relatively to the y-level an ore is found at. So the Coal Ore Generator will be found on the highest level, where as the Diamond Ore Generator will be found at the lowest.

Mine Shafts
Molten Ravines (Underground)
In the north-west part you will find large ravines, full of lava, covered in a complex system of pillars and bridges. These part of the city was highly inspired from this thread (so let me give credit here).

Mushroom Farm: In this area you will find the fully automated mushroom farm in the north.

Nether Wart Farm: In the west is the nether wart field, which can be automatically harvested by button press.

Crystal Forge: If you go downstairs one the left or right at the long road heading west, you will find the Crystal Forge. This is the place where Energy Crystals are forged (using some custom crafting). The Energy Crystal is a special item, which is the celtanean way to store energy. Every time a special action should take place (Generate a resource, use Command Tower, Assemble Squids, etc...) an Energy Crystal is required. These crystals are crafted here, stored in the Storage (as any other item) and can be requested from every place needing one.

Molten Ravines
Energy Crystal Forge
Arena (Underground)
In the south-west corner you will find the entrance to the great Arena. In the bottom level, you have an armory, a brewing room, a regeneration zone (with food and healing chamber) and a respawn room. Once activated, you will find the monster selection in the side corridors. Pick the monsters you want to fight and enter the Arena through the northern door. The monsters will wait for you behind the southern door, which opens when you close the northern one.
You can also change the Arena itself in the south western control room. Choose from "Default", "Desert", "Nether", "Spleef", "Ice" and "Pool" and fight in the surrounding you like.

Zoologic District (Underground)
Deep in the Underground, behind the great Arena, lies the Zoologic District. You will find a themed "cage" for each none-human monster here, so you can study them in their natural habitat. If the monsters vanished (because you changed difficulty or for any other reasons), you are free to push the buttons at the cage, to respawn them. You will find Creepers, Zombies, Spiders, Cave Spiders, Skeletons, Shulker, Endermen, Endermite, Slimes, Ghasts, Blazes and Wither Skeletons here.

Zoologic District
Catacombs (Underground)
Following all stairs beyond the lower underground level, you will find the catacombs in the deep center of the city. The loved ones of the Celtaneans are buried here in their coffins. Over all three floors you will find corridors full of silence, memorial and lament. Starting at the small chapel at the great south western pillar, a died Celtanean find his last peace here. So be respectful when you wander through this halls and gets the kids out, which use a sprint through the upper hallways as their childish test of courage.

Core (Underground)
At the underground center, in a pool of lava lies the Core. A pulsing beacon of light and energy which reaches from down here all the way up to the Palaces' roof. Feel free to spend some resources to unleash the area effects.

The Core of Celtanis
Sewerage (Underground)
Deep below, throughout the whole city are the endless canals and rooms of the Sewerage. It seems this maze of water leads from everywhere to everywhere. Ensure you do not get lost in the large sewerage system of Celtanis. You would not be the first. Once you know this labyrinth, you can use it to get from one location to another quickly.
And if you fall into one of the many lava pools and make your way to the exit somehow (every lava pool has an exit!) it is very likely you will find yourself here. So good luck on your way back to the main streets of the city.

Sewerage 1
Sewerage 2
If you went through the city carefully, you has mentioned the white portals every here and there. These portals lead to another dimension, the Nexus. In the Nexus all those portals are arranged to each other in the same way they are in the city. But the distances between are heavily reduced. So use the Nexus if you want to get from one end to the city to another in nearly no time. Put do not fall off the platforms. There is no ground here.

Other POIs
Along with the districts above, which are explicit mentioned and having their own name, there is a lot more in the city, which is worth to be mentioned:

Blast Furnaces (Underground): At the lower underground levels in the south-east corner the Blast Furnaces are located. These mighty ovens smelt gold or iron to ingots using actually small furnaces in them. At the control panel of each furnace you can adjust which ore the furnace should melt and which fuel should be used. You can also use the manual fuel input, if you have some own fuel at hand. At the feet of every Blast Furnace a lever can be found, which clears all fuel inputs and forwards them directly to the output chest. Just in case a none-fuel item blocks the Blast Furnace.

Golem Factory (Underground): Next to the Blast Furnaces at the south lies the Golem Factory. It can be reached by the hanging stone bridge across the lava pool. If you have enough iron blocks and pumpkins in store, this factory actually produces Iron Golems. Smash one of the buttons to test it. But there is more. Once an iron golem is produces, it reaches the collection chamber at the lower level. Go down there and ensure the lamp on the right about the switch is lit, to have Golemancys activated. If you press the button on the left, the essence of one of the golems is bind to the book, given to you. If you read that book and press the corresponding text passage, the contained golem will be freed at your current location. This way the factory does not only allow you to produce golems, it also enables you to take them with you and place them, wherever you want.

Dimension Portals (Underground): At the west stairs leading to the lower underground level, you can find the entrances to the portal rooms. The Nether portal on the left can be toggled on/off by using the button. Use the switch to activated the auto defense against some pert Pigman, coming through the open portal. The end portal room on the right has no special abilities, apart from the fact, that the pressure plates set your spawn point at the floating platform at the end of the room, to have an atmospheric point of arrival, once you come home from the end.

Monster Trap (Underground): At the west outer wall of the main underground camber, there are the entrances to the Monster Trap. The trap itself is simple and relies on the fact, that monsters do mention open trapdoors as full blocks and fall to their death. In case some super clever skeleton spawns with feather falling boots, some golems waiting at the bottom to finish them off. Use the large leaver at the northern wall to switch the trap on or off. If you somehow managed to fall into the killing zone, you will find a button at the back wall on the right, opening an exit for you. In case you are impatient, there is a "Kill 'em all" button on the southern wall, which will teleport all mobs in a location, where they will fall down from there platforms for sure. Once activated, you have to wait for the cooldown to finish to use it again (would be pretty imba otherwise ;) )

Monster Spawners (Underground): Left next to the Arena are the Monster Spawners for all kind of monsters which drop relevant resources for the city. Each of them is toggleable and designed to get a good killing rate at minimal danger. Even Ghast can be spawned and slaughtered, using the huge hall in the south.

Taverns (Everywhere): All over the city Taverns are present. Every Celtanean who is hungry or wants to sit down with his friends for a talk is welcome here. Just get to the bar and order the food you like. Also check out different Taverns, because the menu differs between them.

Technical Level (Great Pyramid): If you start leaving the great pyramid to the west and turn right to in the side corridor, you will notice a pressure plate at the floor at the left wall (left of the dump). Step on it and a secret passage will open to the Technical Level (a similar entrance can be found when leaving the pyramid to the north). At this Technical Level, you can toggle the storage system, the message-teleporting system and also the district name system. All involved entities will be removed. This may help you, if you run into some performance issues.

Technical Features
Beside all the buildings above, I want to mention some other more technical features of this build.

Spawnproof: The whole city is lit up. No Mob should be able to spawn anywhere. An exception are Slimes. There is a small clock at the Technical Level to get rid of them. Same for bats (which I find just annoying)

Copyable: This city is not only offered as download, it is designed to be copied from this world in any other world you like. All command blocks work with relative coordinates, so feel free to include this build in your world. Please give credits, if you do so.

Multiplayer: All commands and featues are designed to work also on servers, Every command was carefully written using triggers, to prevent all players using those features must be admins.

Adventure Mode: To make the city even more useful, it is adventure-mode friendly. Whenever you get a tool from the storage system, it has the corresponding tags on it, to actually work in adventure mode. So you are able to break ore with your pickaxe, but not the walls of your house. ;)

No Resource Pack: I think minecraft has developed far enough, where the absent of needing a resource pack has become mentionable. The whole city was build in vanilla without any resource pack. So no extra downloads, if you want to roam the city. (Ok, actually I used a small one to correct the top texture of upside-down stairs to fix MC-57935)

Turn it off: Every feature requiring entities or a clock to work (storage, shop, etc...) can be shut down. So nothing will going on, if you do not want to. Also usefull when facing performance issues.

Celtanis on your server
You are totally allowed to use this city on your server, as long you give credits and link to this project side. To make Celtanis fully work on another map, please follow these steps:

1) This map was build in 1.11.2 and was tested in this version. So you want to run minecraft 1.11.2. on your server to be sure everything works.

2) Shut down all systems working with scoreboards
List of scoreboard-systems
This list contains every scoreboard-based system with the coordinates of the controlling lever:
802 45 777 - Storage
813 45 762 - Interactive Text
798 45 751 - District Names
787 45 770 - Random Generator for the shrines
847 50 716 - Library, Enchanted books
807 10 825 - Golem Factory, Golemancies
800 34 594 - Subway Destination System
842 104 738 - Academy, Aura of Knowledge
832 118 801 - Astral Manipulator

3) Teleport to 787 44 779. Although this commandblock works with relative coordinates, the armor stand has to be spawned in always loaded chunks. Otherwise the storage system will not work. So ensure it does, once the map was copied.

4) Copy the city in your server map with the tool of your choice

5) Ensure the commandblock mentioned in 3) is adjusted accordingly.

6) Enable all scoreboard-systems mentioned in 2)

7) Done. Enjoy Celtanis on your server.

I'm aware no server nowadays runs without plugins. Because I'm not a server owner myself and have no experience in running a server, I cannot support you further then here. If any problems occure, I'm afraid you have to solve them on your own.
But please let me know your solutions nontheless. This way I can check if the problem could be avoided using vanilla mechanics and link your solution to other server owners facing the same problem.
Related Downloads (Documentation + Archive)
I threw together all files I used to plan this build, added some documentation and zipped them. So if you are interested in the technical backgrounds you're welcome to have a look into it. You'll need Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx), Microsoft Excel (.xls, .xlsx) and yEd to open all files. If you feel like some important aspects are missing, please let me know.

Known Bugs:
> Auto-Brewing only works once: This is a minecraft bug in 1.11 which was fixed in 1.12.x. So once the city gets updated to 1.12 it will work again. (Current Workaround: Replace Brewing-Stand after every brewing cycle makes it work again also)
> Storage-Messages showing multiple times for one player and not at all for all others in multiplayer - This needs 1.13 commands to get fixed reasonable. So once the city get updated to 1.13 I will fix it (which may take a while, because 1.13 has changed A LOT and tools have a hard time supporting 1.13, e.g. see here).

Still having fun running around this place. I just noticed that in storage, the signs say how many of each item is stored! Easy for me to miss because I don't often go there but very cool! Unfortunately I think I'm lagging my computer a bit too much right now...Items in chests to go to storage vanish but never actually make it to storage. Bummer. Same version as ever, nothing's changed with my minecraft, was fine the last time I played. So, lag it must be and I'll have to work on that... But I still love this build and it's still one of the best I've seen. Juuuust wanted to make sure you knew it's still appreciated.

Thanks, that means a lot to me.

I'll have a look into the sorting system. Maybe I can make it a bit more reliable. Once reached 1.13, it will get an overhoul anyway, to make it much faster and 100% reliable.
Unsorted items should get teleported to the dump, which you find at the corridor to the left at the bottom west exit of the pyramid.

Newer facilities will show the current amount in storage when used. I'll update them step by step, so expect to be completly informed about the stock in newer versions ;)

And if you've performance issues, consider turning off the District Names. This feature isn't essential for anything and runs a lot of commands at once. The corresponding lever is at 798 45 751. Doesn't know if this helps, but it's worth a try. ;)

There are at least two ways finding the sawmill:

By foot:
There is a lonley, high tower at the wall in the south-west. Across the water is the botanic district with the sawmill and carpentry on top. The botanic district stands out a bit from the rest of the city as a square, expanding in the water between the city and the city wall.

By teleport: Did you already found the central storage at the upper floors of the central pyramid? On the north wall leftmost is the storage for planks. If the storage is empty, click at the button for planks. You'll see a text like "planks are out of stock". Open the chat and hover with the mouse over the message. If you click it, you'll get teleported right to the sawmill. This works with every item whenever you get such a message.

If you've trouble finding it, comment again or send me a PM. ;)

ok thanks
It's a real shame my 8 year old mac ins't powerful enough to run the map smoothly.
There appears to be a stray chest in the awkward potion brewing area.
Do you have plans for a brewery that makes ALL potions, rather than just regeneration and instant health? Also, lingering instant health gives way more health than if you just drank it.
Do you have plans to put anything through the nether or end portals? i think it would be cool if have some sort of research outpost in either, it would make more sense in the nether considering there's such and expansive habitat in the zoologic district. I think it would also be cool to what the Celtaneans could with the various items from the end such as elytra and shulker boxes. Sidenote: I think the dragon egg needs more security for something so rare.

There are no plans for outposts in other dimensions. Although that does not mean items from there are not used ;)

There are also no plans to expand the amount of potions (because of lacking space). Adding lingering potions might be an option in the future.

Thanks for pointing out the lonley chest. Will be removed in the next version.

If you run into performance issues, try downloading the "off" version of the map. A link can be found in the "Download Hint" spoiler at the top.
Due to my own stupidity, I ended up having to redownload the entire map & ithe download link isn't working for some reason. It just says generating new download key.

You can check the seed of your map by typing /seed in the command line.
I'll archive the last version before a minecraft-version change. There is also one for 1.9.2 in the "Related Downloads"-spoiler above.
Oh & I also, how do I download Celtanis 1.12.2? I wanted to see this back when all of the Command Bloc stuff was working properly before 1.13 came along. :)

Yes, updating to 1.13 is planned.
At frist, I want to update to 1.12. There are more then 10,000 commands in this build, which have to be updated and checked, if they work properly.
Also the build needs some minor tweaks in 1.12 here and there, because behavior of walls and glass panes changed (connecting to solid surfaces instead of solid blocks only). Other places need a complete rebuild, because some mechanics no longer work (e.g. illegal stacking).
While I'll not rushing anything, it may be worth visiting this project once in a while nonetheless, to see if anything changed. You're also invited to subscribe to ensure you're not missing anything. ;)
It's always worth the wait. :D

Alright so, I've been having a heck of a lot of fun with this. There's so much! I've been focusing on just getting a lot of lumber and monster drops in the trap and wandering around whenever I need a change of scenery. Every time I go on a wander I find something new! On my last wander I found the brown mushroom farm(but not the red...assuming there is one but why wouldn't there be?), the netherwart farm, and finally the underwater homes(got lost the last time ha) and sandpit. It's so cool and I haven't even managed to wander my butt into the palace yet, haha. I'm just trying to make a mental map which is...a work in progress. There's so many ways everywhere. I'm not so good at finding things so perhaps I'll end up just spectating up into that floating sanctuary though. I love how everything fits together visually. I can't use sandstone very well so it's always thrilling to find people who can. Another thing that's cool (to me at least) is that the map barely lags at all, whatever I'm doing. My computer isn't the best so that was my main worry.

There is one thing that I just noticed...The first time I port somewhere, using the 'out of stock' ports, things are fine. But the second time...the item frames are all gone! I first noticed this in the item forge. Ported into the shovel spot and thought 'huh. I thought there were frames here?' and then noticed the bucket and hoe ones were gone too. And the...anvil? I don't actually know what was in that spot! Ported back to the diamond mine and DEFINITELY those were gone. Ha! What's up with that? Non modded, 1,11.2, singleplayer, easy...

Ok, I closed out of the program to check the version and when I came back in the frames were back. How weird! I don't know if that means anything to you; I'm just glad they're visible again. Back to wandering! Back to gathering! I'm gonna try and fill the storage!! I don't know if it's possible but I'm going to give it a go! And at the least, it'd be nice and soothing on days when my brain isn't working well.

EDIT: Actually, can you explain the melon farm to me? Going into spectator mode it looks like there's pistons that are supposed to pull back the sandstone right by the stems, which makes sense because there needs to be a dirt block by the stems for melons to grow. But the pistons never pull back, no matter if the lever is pulled or not. And I looked, when you have the farm on, the redstone IS off...but the pistons stay extended! So...all info is still the same but I was switching between spectator and creative, if it matters.
EDIT THE SECOND: I found the library!! It's beautiful! I love it! It's amazing! I can't actually say how much I love it because I can't put it into words! THIS is my favorite place!
EDIT THE THIRD: I noticed some of the lamps in the cave spider spawner/farm don't turn off? Are they supposed to?

I'm glad you liked it so far, even if not all things seem to work for you.

The item frames becoming invisible seem to be a minecraft bug which occures from time to time. Reentering the map always helped for me.
Unfortunately the melon farm fields work for me, when activated by the lever on the corresponding side of the farm build. Also all lights at the spider spawner turn off for me.
Maybe restarting minecraft could help? Sometimes the local server gets out of sync with the client (even on singleplayer) and redstone acts delayed then. And especially the melon/pumpkin farms heavily relies on timing. Maybe I'll find a way to make this more stable in the future. To become rid of this, you can try restarting the game. Don't know if this helps.
Another possible workaround could be downloading the off-version of the map and check if the melon farm / spider spawner works there properly (both do not need any of the backround-systems turned off in this version). If so, you may not experience a visual lag, but a technical one, delaying the redstone.

There are no red mushrooms. Why? Because I did not need them. Here is the supply chain of the city. Goal was to produce certain items and all items required for them. Because red mushroom was not required for any items they are not part of the supply chain.
As you found the library, you have also found the Cartographery in the basement of it. There is a map of the city on the wall. Maybe getting a copy of those maps could help you navigating.
And the way to the palace is simple: From the spawn point just follow the main street / stairs all the way up. Once you reached a small inner courtyard, you are there.

Please keep me informed if any other things are not working for you. It want this map to work as reliable as possible, so any feedback helps.
And keeping me updated which places you enjoy is always a pleasure for me. ;)

I didn't go in the basement! I forgot! I got distracted by an upper hallway and got lost in the palace HAHA. There's just so much that I haven't had time to wander into the palace, is all. I probably should have started there; it was the first thing I saw when I came in the city. And maybe if I had, I wouldn't have gotten so lost...

When I end up back by the melons, I'll check that. I HAD had the game on for a while at that point. Same with when I was by the spider farm. So maybe that's why. :D I was worried I'd broken something! I wasn't sure how but I was sure I could break something just by being near it(and I think it can be argued that I DID if the game was just on too long).

Oho! You know, I'm so used to playing in creative, I forgot brown mushrooms were used in potions! Yeeeee, once I need a break from the mines, I'm going to head right back to the library! It was BEAUTIFUL. I grew up with the library from Beauty and the Beast as my ideal and so many times in Minecraft, the libraries people make just fall short. THIS one does not! This one and the mountain city one from Broville both made me want to move in, lol. Gorgeous! I love the staircase most of all, I think.

EDIT: Also, in case you were interested in knowing, I came across this map in an article...somewhere somehow, where they were raving about your map. It was an old article, I think, that mentioned that you'd quit so it was pretty thrilling to find out you were still working on the map. Most of the time when I find cool maps, the people have already left so I can't tell them how cool it is...

I'd never guessed that my library design could make someone that happy. I'm really glad you like it. Feel free to discover it from the gardens on the roof to the manufacturies at the basement.

I'm always interested in everything related to this map. So I wonder if you could give me a link to that article. I'm just curious what it is about (I'm always interested in all the reactions my map generates when encountering different people). And its true that I wanted to quit minecraft. But I could not help myself and continued to making improvements and coming up with new ideas. So here we are.

I am not sure about the article...it was a while ago. I tend to go looking for cool stuff, save a bunch of maps and slowly work through them so I actually downloaded this...hmm. In march, according to the file. I found an article that the author talked to you about the map but I don't know if it was the one I read? https://minecraft.net/en-us/article/mechanical-metropolis Also I found this chunky rendering and it looks so cool! https://wiki24.net/post/7sf1y4/

As for the mountain city, it's on a massive map called Broville. It's just...so big. I haven't even finished exploring the main city yet and that's not even...a 5th of the space. I actually ended up in the mountains just to take a break from the city; it's pretty overwhelming. If you want, http://oldshoes.ca/broville is where the download is. Direction to the mountain city: You spawn on an island with warps. The one you want is north up a path out of the little village. It's inside the bank by the little lake. That spawns you in Alpine Village. Then you should switch to spectator, go nor-nor-west. You'll be passing over a valley with a lake and railbridge. One of the mountains has a large opening, facing East(our east, at any rate. I'm not sure MC east faces the same way). The 3rd picture down actually shows a view of the mountain and the entrance, I believe, from Alpine. https://imgur.com/gallery/h4Qix Just dive into the mountain; the library is pretty big, shouldn't be too hard to find. If you DO decide to go looking for it and then decide to look at the rest of the map, be aware that some of the people who worked on it were teens who thought they were edgy so there are quite a few offensive signs and named items. Not in the mountain city or in Alpine but in the main city? Boy howdy. I don't know about the state of the rest of the map because...I haven't gotten there yet. But it's so cool and the design solutions are just neat and the interiors feel lived in and the city feels REAL and there's so many things hidden around and little stories here and there and a few just scary things(a button that transports you to the same building but now it's floating in darkness and blood is everywhere, a forest that is somehow deep as a ravine with sentient trees that HATE YOU, a woman goes missing from a park[this one should not be done on survival though, bug at the end kills you and the piston doors don't seem to work?]), there's things from video games(the res evil police station!) and just. Everything. Usually I prefer things like castles and fantasy towns and shun modern city builds but Broville is amazing.

But if you're just going to look for the library, it all might be a bit much. For a sense of the scale: https://imgur.com/gallery/7LQI5 I might just go take some pictures of the library for you.

Thanks for your feedback.
You're right. The forcefield just replaces air. If you're placing a block in it fast enough it will stay. So technically you can build your way through it.
I chose this approach because I wanted the forcefield to protect the entire city (even underground), which it currently does. So replacing all air blocks in the way of the forcefield was the way to go to prevent the forcefield messing with the terrain or any structures in its path.

The regeneration speed is a tradeoff. Currently I'm using hopper clocks. So it's slower but also more performant. I could making it instant using repeating commands. But I'm afraid this would make the map even more laggy on less powerfull computers.

The water-lava-pattern provides a self-repairing wall. If you start to destory the wall from the outside and reach the cobblestone walls, you will find: it is very difficult to destory them, because the cobblestone regenerates nearly instantly.

I've also been playing a survival game for the last few weeks on your map, and for the most part it works fantastic and runs well. The few things I've noticed are 1) Buttons are more suited than levers to the harvesting mechanism of melons and pumpkins, 2) There is a missing hopper minecart in the completed items deposit of both the tnt and diamond shovels, causing them not to be sent to storage, and 3) Water bottles don't have the correct tags to collect water, even after being sent through storage. Hope I helped!

I had a look into the issues you mentioned
1) The levers activates the auto-harvest-funtion. You only have to pull it twice in the beginning, so the field gets cleared and new pumpkins/melons can grow. If one appears, it gets harvested automatically. But I'm not that happy with the design, so maybe I'll rework it anyway (using observers).
2) Thanks, fixed in next version
3) Glass Bottles are spawned correctly to collect water. Waterbottles already have water in it, so no water can be collected again. I just tested it and all seems to work correctly. Does I miss something here?
