This is my one and only minecraft project, build in singleplayer vanilla creative since 2013.

--o[ Celtanis ]o--

This ancient massive city is the metropolis of an old high-tech culture, the Celtaneans. The idea was to create a working and well-looking city, which misses no aspect of an epic metropolis. It is fully player sized and reaches from the crystal over the Palace far deep down to the underground. There are more than 1000(!) furnished houses all over the city for all the inhabitants.

TLDR: This city has a whole bunch of features in it, which you will probably miss if you do not read on. If you don't mind, just get the map and start exploring. But for all those who want to know what this is all about, welcome to a detailed explanation of each ring and district.

Small City Guide

The whole metropolis is organized in rings:

1 - City Wall: The massive wall encloses and protects the whole city.
2 - Outer Ring: Right behind the City Wall is the Outer Ring, containing farms in the east and the underwater districts in the north and west.
3 - Middle Ring: In the middle, we have the city itself enclosed by the old city walls. These walls separate the Middle Ring from the outer one. In the Middle Ring you will find causal workshops for the normal daily life of a Celtanean.
4 - Inner Ring: From the Middle Ring, great staircases go up to the Inner Ring, where the more advanced laboratories are located.
5 - Center: At the top and very center, the Palace raises with it four mighty towers.
Underground: Underneath all these overground structures extends the enormous undercity with its caverns and dungeons.

You will find many different districts in those rings, each dedicated to one aspect of the Celtanean's daily life. As one of the special features of this build, the name of each district will show up on entering. To make sure you do not miss any feature, here is a detailed guide through each ring and district.

Hello there, Natac. Should've said this a while ago, but the update looks great <3
I was just wondering where the little easter egg house went. I played on the 1.11 and thought the floating diamonds were the best and I want them baaaaaaack ╥﹏╥

Floating diamond blocks are still in the map. Each of the palast towers has a diamond block floating around its top. If you go up the the palace roof, you should be able to see them. I hope this compensates the one at the house ;)

The only project you have on this site is by far the most impressive. The amount of math involved in this build is astounding, you have everything lined up perfectly! I love how you didn't just make this to look good, you made it a fully functional city with survival proof walls. I bow to your skill and craftmanship.

The old men say that what makes a sword beautiful is not its looks, but its craftsmanship and usefulness, you just happened to combine all three. That is what earns you the respect of all that gaze upon your city and walk its streets, not just its splender, but its functionality. Honest to God, when I see Celtanis I am inspired to write a book of times gone by.

There are. The royal living quarters are right below the throne room. You'll find the throne room at the main floor in the north. If you're just interested in a bed, you can also find one in one of the houses inside the palace.

About getting lost in the palace: You have two possiblities:
1.) Try to go upstairs as much as you can and search for a balcony to jump down into some body of water
2.) Try to go downstairs and make your way to the inner yard and the great stairs which lead down from the palace.

You'll also find some general hints to prevent getting lost in the "Small City Guide"-section at the start of this project description. I hope this helps.

I almost forgot about this amazing map until I found this page (and your comment on my map) and it reminded me to download it again. The best way I can describe this city is overwhelming, but in a good way. There are just so many things to do, mechanisms to experiment with, monumental builds to explore, and adventures to go on. I just downloaded the new version of your map and I don't even know where to start, because there's enough content to keep me attached for months at least. And according to the other comments, you can play survival in here? And there's "energy crystals"? By adventures I meant finding all the nooks and crannies in the districts, I played in Creative. But I didn't know there was actual quests to be had (it's been months since i last played). The only downside to all this is that the map, as expected, does lag a lot (but that's due to my computer being a near-toaster tier, only being able to run basic shaders in minimized resolution and only having 4GB of RAM). Overall, this really deserves more fame and should be put in the "Hall Of Underrated Builds with Craptons of Effort Put Into Them". (Also, what happened to your little house outside the walls of the city? I thought it was cute)

Hey. Thanks for your feedback. Yes, you can play the map in survival mode. Even adventure mode is possible.
If you're teleporting at 800,63,976 and turn around, you'll find a start item chest at the statue, where an Energy Crystal is included. You need Energy Crystals to do the things in the city which couldn't be done in normal survival gameplay (e.g. generating ores).
If you have trouble with performance, you might want to download the "Off"-version of the map. A link can be found in the "Download Hint"-spoiler above. Some global system are disabled in this version. If you want to try how much your PC can handle, visit the technical level and enable the systems you like. A description how to get there can be found in the "Technical Level"-spoiler in the "Center" section above.
Thank you for enjoying this map and giving feedback :)

Thanks for the reply. I downloaded the off version and tried allocating more memory. it does help the performance a bit, but overall its still a little janky. It's okay though, I can always use my better computer to run it. Thanks for the extra info on the crystals, the item generators seem really interesting

More red beds.
X: 787 Y:51 Z:681
Found while wandering, a bit stricken, after falling off the Nexus and losing(among other things) 25 energy crystals, which were all I'd made so far. Luckily, witches drop redstone and glowstone and there are still some diamonds in the Crystal Forge chests. So not ALL is lost. I'm not sure what I would have done if I had no way to make more Crystals...I don't even have a pick atm, haha. I guess I would have had to leave for a bit, or spawn in the materials but UGH that feels like a waste. What's the point if I just spawn in anything I want? Um, of course, in the spirit of full disclosure, I DID try and switch to creative while falling but I...forgot that enter doesn't open the chat window in Minecraft so I'm DEFINITELY a hypocrite but comon. My first 25 energy crystals. On my way to mine materials to make some more. That kinda hurts. I just wanted to find the fastest way there...

On the bright side, because your city and storage system keeps carried inventory to a minimum, I wasn't carrying a crazy amount of things. I pretty much know what I lost, for once. The dog wasn't with me. I CAN make more energy crystals and oh, I left the chests on in the Forge. I should go turn them off. My poor sad computer needs as few phantom carts flying through the air as possible, lol. I'm just a little...stunned, is all.

And now I'm lost. That's what happens when you wander while stunned. I did stumble across this...warehouse? Seeing the block of diamond is cheering. Even if things had been the worst(no energy crystals, no pick, no diamonds), between the witches and that block, I would actually have been fine anyway! Haha, I managed to wander away from the Warehouse and now I'm not sure where it is. I guess I'm still stunned. There was a chest in there called the 'stacking chest'. What's that? If you've said before, I'm sorry. Now...where am I...

Thanks for reporting another red bed.

Do you remember the start item chest? One of the start items is an energy crystal. I think what most people miss is, that it is refilling itself...

The harbor warehouse is the one with the stacking chest. In the stacking chest you can put tools, weapons or armor which get stacked up to 3 items per stack, when reopening the chest.
To find it again, follow this description:
Go to the lower level of the great pyramid. Leave though the south entrance. Before leaving the pyramid, you see the shop hallway on the right. Turn left. You pass a staircase on the right and come to an intersection where you can go straight and right. Go right and follow the small street. The warehouse is at the end of the street on the left.

Oh, there's a piece of glass missing in the floor of the Glowstone Mine. Was it already missing? I didn't think I'd come here yet in this version of the map. Though maybe I did and forgot...

Hmm. Bone meal from the carrot farm and bone meal from the wheat farm don't stack. Interesting. I assume it's because you updated the wheat farm(which is why harvested seeds now stack with seed chest seeds, yeah?) but not the carrot farm.

Celtanis is gorgeous at night. I've taken several screenshots, lol.

In the mines, I love how the faces on the walls have colored eyes. It just looks so nice. I noticed them way back the first time I went in the mines on the very first version of this map I downloaded but I never said. Late is better than never?

Missing glass block is fixed in the next update. Also is the non-stacking bone meal. I added the paragraph "Items do not stack" to the know bug section, to explain this behavior as more player may stumble upon it.
While flying around, found some red beds myself at 928 54 709. ;)
I wasn't able to find any valid spawnpoint around the carrot farm. So currently I assume your modifications to the wind mills made the mobs spawn ;-p. If you find any valid spawn point other than this, please let me know.

Thanks for liking the colored eyes at the mines and the city at night. I also like how all the lights make the city feel nice and welcoming.

If you enable the debug screen with F3, you can see the block light level at your current position. If you're standing on a full block and the light level is 7 or lower, mobs can spawn there. But there are some exceptions, so mobs cannot spawn on e.g leaves or glass. For further investigation, can you send me the coordinates, where you died?

I have this weird thing happening in the Library, where when I open a chest sometimes the book(or A book...A Lure I popped out of a chest with Lure III which, while I've seen different enchants, I haven't seen a different level of the same enchant show up in the same chest) will just...appear in my inventory, like I've picked it up. The item does that little bounce animation and everything. It's very odd! Do you have any idea what's going on?

Oh man, more prodding. So, in the Military District, in the very center of the building are the chests for armor, potions and other goodies, and weapons. I flipped the switch to fill up the arrows chest because I'd stood in the Monster Farm for a night a bit ago(and forgot to turn on To Storage. What a MESS I woke up to! And like 11 chickens, haha! Did you know chickens from chicken jockeys don't seem to lay eggs?) and it filled right up. Since it filled up, I headed to the Archery Range(which looks super cool) to fill up that arrow chest, since I'd tried to a few days ago and no arrows went into the chest(I'd just assumed that there were no arrows in storage, somehow) but this time...still no arrows. Which definitely doesn't seem right!

I was wondering something: Sometimes when I flip a switch to fill a chest, sometimes I get a little message saying how many items are in storage and sometimes I don't. I've been assuming it's because the message only appears up to a certain amount in storage(since I've never seen one over 1000 items and it seems to happen to the items I'm pretty sure I have a lot of), but honestly, I haven't paid much attention to it since I know I can go to Storage and see how many I have in those awesome signs. But now I'm wondering a bit about the criteria for the message to appear.

I don't know if you did this on purpose or not but I love that the Blacksmiths' homes are right beneath the Military District, like they're holding the Military up. Which is, yanno, metaphorically true. I thought that was really neat and appropriate. Also, I appreciate the stairs right down to the Blacksmiths' and their inn by the Carrot Farm...Nice and fast for me to get some chicken(because I'm a goose and haven't gotten any other food made) when I've accidentally smacked myself and need to recover my hunger! I need to watch my step better...

Also also, I never mentioned, but the updated pictures you put up forever ago look great.
EDIT: Oh! I know where a bow is and have arrows! I'm going to go try the Range out! I...I don't know if I've ever actually used a bow before, heh. I suck so much at combat in MC that I usually play on peaceful. ^^;;;;
EDIT2: HAHAHAHAHAHA I SUCK SO BAD AT ARCHERY but at least I can confirm experience rewards are working. Ooooh, but I'm SO BAD AT THIS. XDDD I used up half a stack of arrows getting one(1) hit on each target! Oh man. It's a good thing I don't play CTMs. XD
EDIT3: Oh, there's a cafeteria in the Garrison. Well then. I admit, the Military District is one I mostly skipped over before...

Archer Range Had a look into it. The hopper clock filling the chest is clogged. If you fly behind the wall (using spectator mode), there are two hoppers facing each other. Remove all items from both hoppers expect one. Then it should work again. Also fixed in the next update, thanks to you!

Amount in messages In the newer manufactories (e.g. Elyta Workshop) it tells you the amount instead of just saying "out of stock" or nothing at all. This (unfortunately) doesn't apply for older requesting mechanisms. Thats why you get no message there. I plan to update the older ones. But I'm not sure yet when this is done.

Blacksmith/Military No, this wasn't on purpose. But as you mention it, its a nice circumstance nonetheless. From now on, I'll sell this as intended ;)

I come to add to confusion about chickens. For one, I went to the Nether. I also forgot I was not on peaceful but let's...let's not talk about that. When I respawned...I mean came back, of my own accord and not because of a mob assisted swan dive onto thankfully solid ground, I found...A chicken walking around my pile of items. I'm becoming suspicious of these chickens. Afterwards I went to my intended destination, which was the mob farm. The Nether portal was on the way and I was curious...but enough of that. I walked to that nice little balcony overlooking the Floor of Death and do you know what I saw?? A chicken! Floating down from the platforms, nothing on its back! But HOW? Why? WAS IT THE SAME CHICKEN? Who knows...

I'm watching you, chickens...I'm watching...

And if you were wondering how the heck the Nether portal is on my way to the mob farm, I've been using the Core as a bridge to get straight from one side of the Ravines to the other, haha! I hope your Celtaneans don't do that!

I searched that chicken mystery a bit. I think the chickens are this bug: MC-103516
It says that chicken jockeys spawn without the riding mob. Sound very familiar to what you describe. It seems to be fixed in 1.13 or so, so I'm afraid you have to deal with those chickens as long as the map doesn't get updated to a newer minecraft version. Maybe could can spawn a wolf or something to get rid of the chickens automatically?

I dunno if this is a shared complaint and it's not a big deal, but i find the symbols for the time and weather towers a bit ambiguous. The weather tower symbol I think is the sun with a cloud over it, but I often see it as an eclipse, or the moon moving over the sun. Likewise the time tower symbol is a sunrise with the moon below it, and from a distance i often think it looks like a cloud with a bolt of lightning coming out. I dont know if this is just me but maybe the symbols could be changed to be more distinctive.
