Couldnt you just use the greyscale thing in super secret settings instead of a resource pack?

Actually not, at the end you can give everything color again, so it has to be with a resourcepack.

The super secret settings stops when you press f5.

Please take a look at the trailer, you'll see that you can color pieces of land, that won't work with super secret settings.
