On July 12, 2011, in the Peterhof Museum-Reserve, the court church, opened after restoration work, was consecrated in the name of the holy Apostles Peter and Paul. Created by the will of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna and the project of F. B. Rastrelli, the creator of the Elizabethan Baroque style, it is an outstanding example of this architect's religious building. Consecrated for the first time on September 10, 1751, it occupied the eastern building of the Grand Palace, crowned, at the request of Elizabeth Petrovna, with five gilded domes "according to our faith." The extraordinarily lush and colorful interior decoration is amazing for traditional Russian church architecture. It demonstrates the combination of Orthodox traditions with the ideas of Western culture and the Baroque style. Streams of light pouring from large windows, bright paintings, gilded carvings, the absence of a scene of the Last Judgment, soft and kind faces of saints, embodying the idea of ​​intercession for people, create a particularly festive and blessed atmosphere. The abundance of gold in the decoration of the Altar, the Hall and the Refectory fill them with a sacred meaning, since gold is the main symbol of church art, meaning the radiance of Divine glory.

The plan of the church hall is unusual - in the form of an octagon, like a guiding star shining in this world. The vault of the dome also has eight faces. On it, as it should be in an Orthodox church, the very first and most revered founders of the church are depicted: evangelists, apostles, saints. Among the features of the Church Hall of the Peterhof court church is the absence of salt and pulpit - elevations in front of the iconostasis and altar. The arrangement of 40 icons on a six-tiered iconostasis is traditional. Many saints on the icons are depicted in a state of emotional tension, expressed in poses, gestures, and turns, which are characteristic of baroque painting. The gilded carving around them, consisting of cherubs, rocailles, whimsical plant shoots, garlands, although it symbolizes paradise, does not differ much from the carvings in the imperial halls of the palace. In addition, it also includes the monogram of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna.

Particularly impressive is the central part of the iconostasis, directed upward, decorated with twisted gilded columns and completed with a carved gilded Golgotha ​​with the Coming Ones. Of the seven sacraments, the sacraments of the Eucharist, weddings and baptisms were most often performed here. The court temple witnessed the family celebrations of the Romanov dynasty. Here, not only married, baptized newborns, but also celebrated the days of the most important state and religious holidays. The final pages in the history of the church were the baptisms of four of the five children of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II. The baptism of his long-awaited heir, Tsarevich Alexei, born in Peterhof, took place on August 11, 1904.
