I can answer some of your computer questions 'what exactly does a computing machine ( eg a calculator ) need in-order to be a complete CPU'

By changing only the software; the machine must be able to produce all of it's possible outputs; as well as distinguish between any of it's possible inputs.

Conditional branching combined with any symbolic-manipulation function ( eg. load Immediate value or Add immediate value ) is enough

I'd love to see some more specs; have you decided upon an instruction set ?
