The Flaktower

Flaktowers are large bunkers build by the Nazi regime during World War II to protect important cities against allied airraids. The towers had 2 main functions, to serve as an airraid shelter for the local population and as an AA battery.

There were 3 generations of Flaktowers, i have chosen to build a modified version of the first generation. With a reinforced entrance and without external stairs leading from the lower gunplatform to the top of the tower. I also added a parade ground in front of the tower, it's sides coverd by flags and collumnades.

Also work has begun on turning this FLaktower into a much larger (and never planned or existing) Tower.

Im turning this single Flaktower into a large one consisting out of 4 corner towers with an elevated middle part. The corner towers consist out of the original Flaktowers.

A so called Super Flaktower

This version doesn't exist in reality.


Of the first generation of Flaktowers 4 have been build, 3 in Berlin and 1 in Hamburg.

After the war the bunkers in Berlin were demolished after multiple failed attempts by the Allied and Sovjet forces. The zoo tower bunker is completely demolished. Friedrichshain tower is partly demolished, its remains mostly coverd by rubble. The Humbolthain tower however is still standing on 1 side, the other destroyed and coverd as well. It is this tower that can be visited today with guided tours.

The tower in Hamburg still stands today and is like many others in use for diffrent purposes.


Flaktowers were mostly build in pairs, consisting out of a Gefechtsturm and a Leitturm. The Leitturm housed a large radarstation to scan the area for enemy movement whilst the Gefechtsturm was heavily armed with multiple FLAK guns.

The towers themselves were to be part of the later planned cities of the Reich. These large bunkers would have been turned into monumental looking fortresses. Their concrete walls to be covered with granite and marble.

The project is build on a Rpg Survival server. It took me several months to build it. The walls are about 5 to 4 blocks thick and are lined with obsidian, the roof is about 5-8 blocks thick and has a layer of obsidian build into it.



Currently it is no longer a single Flaktower. The project has changed into a so called Super Flaktower. Which would be a huge bunker with 4 normal Flaktower corner towers. It would be fitting for in a Wolfenstein game.
