Description
Spry is the only remaining and the prime example of a Severn Trow, a type of cargo vessels unique to River Severn. It was built in 1893 by William Hurd of Chepstow. Hundreds of these once sailed the Severn, carrying all sorts of goods between Bristol and Shrewsbury, before the railways took over. She last sailed in 1996 to participate in the first International Festival of the Sea, after which she was put on display near the National Waterways Museum in Gloucester, and later in her permanent home at Blists Hill in 1997.
