Here is a slice of the iconic farlands.
For those who didn't have the chance of exploring them in Minecraft beta 1.7 and prior, you can now enjoy exploring them in more recent versions.
This map is roughly 200 x 10 chucks in size.
(due to the file size, only alternate download is available)
If you are interested in visiting the original farlands, here is a quick tutorial on how to make an export yourself [at least in Java]:
step 1 : finding the farlands :
- create a map in Minecraft beta 1.7 or older. This version can be selected in your Minecraft launcher by enabling old beta.
- locate the 'level.dat' file of the world in your save folder (close your world before).
- open it using 'nbt explorer' or other nbt editor
- set the X and/or Z spawn position to 12550800 which is the location of the farlands
- re-enter your world and find a way to respawn
-> you are now facing the farlands
step 2 : exporting the save in more recent Minecraft versions :
- /!\ only generated chucks will be kept as beta 1.7 , the new ones will be generated as regular terrain instead of farlands after the conversion.
- go to your Minecraft launcher and select MC 1.6.4
- enter your world again to convert the chunks in more recent format. contrary to beta 1.7 you have access to commands, you may use '/gamemode creative' to explore the world
- you can now enter the world in the most recent version (ex : 1.20)
