Disclaimer: This project is dead
I could not keep up with the updates minecraft (and the mods I relied upon) was going through at the time, the base of the map is available through the link along with the texture pack (broken) If you are interested in pieces of the map or texture assets, feel free to use them. Credit would be welcome (for anything besides the base painterly assets I used for the texture pack that is). This was a one-man project and I overestimated my abilities and underestimated the scale when I started this. I hope the parts that are there can bring some enjoyment to the community.

I found the map data on a backup drive, but as Minecraft has been updated in many ways since the build started, the project won't be resurrected. I will upload what I have (It seems that this isn't the true latest version, but it's all I found) for anyone interested. The (broken) texture pack is included, but you will have to manually fix it up to work with the latest Minecraft version. Feel free to use and modify, crediting me would be welcome.

Fat Man - Post-nuclear adventure

I have wanted to make this map for a long time and now I finally started working on it. I'm not going to say that this will be easy, as at the moment I'm working alone, but I hope the result, whenever it comes, is worth the trouble.

The map is centered around a town called Freemont, the whole idea and story around it comes from a forum-based RPG that can be seen here - EDIT: the original thread has been deleted, so no link is available. It was a Fallout inspired game where each player controlled a certain faction in a post-nuclear world.

The basic idea behind this map is to create a somewhat realistic city, that can be used as a RPG, survival map, adventure map or whatever you can think of. I've seen many fallout projects but (not trying to offend anyone) many of the buildings there seem out of place, being too unrealistic in detail, size, contents etc. There are some good city maps out there that are quite realistic in scale and detail, but I think more are needed.

Album that I will be updating - HERE

I won't link the individual images here as they are too large, check them out in the album.

Phase I - Landscape - Done

This was possible only thanks to worldpainter, that allowed me to lay the original map from the RPG on top of the minecraft map and thus I was able to recreate the map landscape as accurately as possible.

Phase II - Buildings, small locations and infrastructure (about 40-50% done)

You can see the process from the images below. This may be easier than it seems at the first glance, but after that I intend to furnish most if not all the buildings and add some shops, story etc. I used the worldpainter to mark the buildings on the landscape until I opened it up the next day and faced an enormous lag that allowed me to mark 1 building in 2 minutes (took 10 seconds to mark before the lag). I marked some key points and hopefully I can use the roads and marked sites to place the remaining buildigs. As may of the buildings are of the same type I will only have to work hard on unique locations.

I will release the map for public sometime in this phase or if things go quicker then when I get to phase III.

Phase III - Adding interiors, shops, story etc.

This might take some time :/

Phase IV - Incorporating some weapons mod (Flan's weapons) - Main Weapons done (may add some special ones later on)

This will be an extra if and when the map really gets done.

Being easier than I had expected, it's already done. :P

Phase V - Setting up missions and the Noppes' custom NPC mod

The finished map is going to feature many missions including a main storyline and different factions (represented by different villagers ATM, but it's most likely I will change them to Noppe's custom NPCs)

This is it for now, I will try to update as much as possible.

Uploaded some images to an imageshack album ( imageshack.us/g/1/9882719/ )
As the project image count has been depleated, you will have to look at them there. :/
I will be posting more pictures there if there's something to show (the link is also in the description under "media")

Wow, this map looks amazing :D I'm really looking forward to the final release so I can play through it. I understand that it's probably going to take a while, take your time, I'm sure this map is definetly going to be worth the wait.
