I never build something like that, because it's very annoying to make all that command blocks with the different directions! Well done!!

Is it currently possible to intercept the ball mid flight (Like a goalie blocking a shot, or for long passes)?

I'm pretty sure not, because he seems to be executing the block itsself and not the sand entity. I'm sure this would be possable tho.
