Gutter Rat - Chapter 2 - Version 1

The Map -

Iv Tried to make the map as open worldly as possible, even though it is based in a sewer. Although this map still has a basic story line (see below) that they player should follow. If at any point in the process of playing the map your not sure of what to do then just wounder around you will find a book at some point they will prompt you on your way. I have play tested this map and it takes approximately 30m to play while completing g all of the challenges and finding all of the secrets. Enjoy!

Rules -

  • This map can be played at any difficulty
  • There is a maximum player count of three on this map as any more would make the map over crowded

  • Do not break blocks
  • Don't change the game mode (the default is 2)
  • Have fun

Challenges -

Gutter Rat works on a point system once you have completed each chapter add you points total together and then add them to your total from the last chapter.

  • Free The People - Once you have completed the game you may award yourself seven points.
  • Music Time - For each of the music discs that you find you may award yourself one point.
  • Closing Up - In this challenge you must turn off every water valve in this section of the sewer (Over 25). This challenge is worth 3 points.

Lore Explained And Changes -

Chapter Two is set only hours after your escape from chapter one, in these hours you have been told who you are (Player name) and that you and hundreds of other people live in the sewers of a great city, (which the name has been lost to time). You have also been told that you were abducted by a gang of thugs and discarded in to the lower levels of the sewer of which you thankfully returned, you have also been told that these thugs have been dealt with. In Chapter Two of Gutter Rat you will explore the Central levels of the sewer network and certain bits of the lower city.

Levels Of The Sewer -
  1. The Lower Levels - This part of the sewer is only occupied by: mutants, zombies and castaways. This level of the sewer was abandoned years ago because of these horrors and was never returned to. It is recommended that everyone stay away from this level of the sewer. (Chapter 1)
  2. Central levels - This is where the main populist of people live. It is a nice area... well for a sewer anyway. It is known for some Zombies and other monsters to seep through from the lower levels into the central levels but this does not happen often and when it does the levels guards will normally take care of the threat. (Chapter 2)

  3. Lower City - Although this is not technically a part of the sewer it may as well be as the quality of life is only slightly better at this level than at the central levels. the people at this level will normally try to help out people from the central level in any way they can (by giving them free accommodation, items or by trading) even though they will normally enter this level from the central level through their toilets. (Chapter 2/3)

Updates From Chapter One -

Except for the massive update to the lore for gutter rat there has also been a huge change in the rules and the play style of Gutter Rat. A few of these changes that have already been implemented are:

  • Creeper Proofing - One of the main disadvantages for Gutter rat Chapter One was that you pretty much had to play it in peaceful or otherwise half the map would get destroyed by creeper explosions. This is no longer the case as now all pieces of the sewer map have been covered in obsidian which will stop all creeper explosions from ruining your immersion and just change the color of the sewer slightly.
  • The Iron Door System - I have tried to make Chapter Two of Gutter rat as open worldly as possible, although to stop people from going off to places that are not necessary to make the story line progress i have introduce the Iron Door System this means that normally if you can see it then you can get there, although if you see an iron door then the stuff behind the door is only for show and you should not try and find a way to get there, this is represented in game as the character cannot simply get there. Iron doors should also not be destroyed (just like any other blocks).
  • NPCs - I have finally introduced NPCs into the map. These will be normally just for show as the storyline will still be pushed forward using books but that doesn't mean that they are completely useless as they will trade with you and help you fight off all of those mobs.
  • Adventure Mode - Unlike Gutter Rat Chapter one where I chose to put the game mode in survival (this is because for one of the challenges the player had to place ladders.) I have now chose to create Gutter rat Chapter Two for the adventure mode, this means that players will not be able to break or place blocks. It is against the rules to change this mode (this mode is game mode 2).
  • 100% More Easter Eggs - even though the map development is still in an early stage i am adamant to put more Easter eggs and secret locations in Chapter two than were in Chapter one.
  • Toilet Submersion - In chapter two of Gutter Rat you can enter the lower levels of the city, these being small houses accessible through toilets, these will be dotted around the map and will contain many different types of loot!

Spoiler - Chapter Two Plot
At the begging of Gutter Rat Chapter Two you are told that the people that live with you in the central level are fed up of living in the sewers and are trying to find a safe and easy way out of the sewers. They have told you that they want everyone to escape the sewers and not just a small few so because of this they cannot simply reach the surface through The lower city levels as this would be a task that children and older people would not be able to do (as it would require swimming up large sewer pipes).
When trying to find a way out of the sewer you stumble upon an old book about the sewer network it talks about a main hatch in the sewer that leads to the surface, although it also mentions that this hatch can only be oped by pulling three leavers that are dotted around the central level of the sewer... This is your challenge in Chapter Two of Gutter Rat, will you succeed?
