The I-400-Class Submarine Imperial Japanese Submarines were the largest submarines of WWII and remained the largest ever built until the construction of nuclear submarines in the 1960s. The IJN called this type Sentoku submarines. They were able to carry 3 M6a Seiren aircraft underwater to their destinations. They were designed to surface, launch the planes, and dive before detection. It also carried torpedos for close range combat.
