Hello and Welcome to Icarus IV!

About the Planet

Icarus IV is a frozen, terrestrial planet with an oxygen rich atmosphere and
is covered in a deep ocean topped with a thick layer of ice.

The ground is saturated with coal and iron ores but you will be hard pressed
to find any other resources.

As a result, Modular Resource Units have been deployed to aid you. Finding
and accessing these units will provide you with the equipment to progress.

You are tasked with using the resources you have access to, plus whatever you
can forage from the planet, to survive and survey the planet for new life.

This Map is set to Survival/Peaceful. Cheats are enabled so if you would like to
alter the gameplay you are free to do so.

Inspirations and Build Process

The primary inspiration for Icarus IV comes from the possibility of life existing on
Jupiter's satellite Europa as detailed in this article from NASA:

My exoplanet's primary composition consist of a frozen icy shell covering a large ocean that contains the conditions for life.



Additional influences come from the Geyser Basin of Enceladus,
where large geysers shoot miles into the air. An ice volcano provides
a center piece of the map and its surrounding archipelago is intended to provide
the perimeter to an arena of survival and discovery.



I primarily used the tools WorldPainter and WorldEdit to construct this build.
The map is intended to provide some of the challenges a scientist might encounter on a discovery expedition.
Resources are limited but exploration will open up new ones and combining them in creative ways will allow
the player to reach new areas and explore further afield.

Most of these resources will be found in structures I have dubbed Modular Resource Units. Their concept is a take
on the idea that a base could be constructed on an exoplanet using interconnecting facilities that can be pre-deployed
before the scientists arrival and efficiently assembled on location.



About the Author

Hi. My name is Jakobe and I've been on PlanetMinecraft for a handful of weeks but
have been playing Minecraft for substantially longer. I have a tiny Youtube Channel
where I like to post time lapse builds and short Minecraft stories.

My love for space exploration probably stemmed first from that beloved galaxy far, far away
but definitely took off in the real world when I first got to witness a shuttle launch at
the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral. Most of my Minecraft projects are in a very
different aesthetic from this project so I enjoyed the challenge of having to build in a futuristic style.
