The fortress of Kingskeep has been sieged, burnt, and rebuilt countless times over the ancient Dwarven ruins that once stood in its place, but House Chynr has made certain the castle would never be taken again.
Adding two layers of curtain walls and siegecraft to match, the Chynrs, the ruling family of Lathael, have heavily fortified the only remaining standing Dwarven structure, The Spire, and built their own towers and walls into the stone. The Spire houses most of the castle and the way down into the deep underground barracks, kitchens, armories, and eventually the legendary vault that houses the enormous wealth of House Chynr and Lathael.
On the opposite end of The Spire, towered walls guard a tiny bastion of life hundreds of feet up, and Snakesfang, the tallest tower in Lathael, proudly reaches for the clouds and houses a small mysterious room at its peak in which only members of House Chynr have ever entered. In the yards below, the great golden snake of Chynr overlooks the bulk of military power in Lathael in the shadows of huge ballistae and catapults, ready to defend the castle.
Floating lazily above the waters lapping the shores and the stone Spire, a massive Dwarven-built frigate airship lies in wait to launch out across the sea with its fellows to lay waste to the Chynr’s enemies abroad, but how did the human house gain the secrets of flight held exclusively by the Elves and Dwarves?
Amisdt the skirmishes against the Dwarves, during the initial landing of humans on the Lathaelian peninsula, King Gaius Chynr, the current head of his house and king of Lathael, captured and held a Dwarven general and great engineer during the reconstruction of Kingskeep. The remaining Dwarven forces were scattered and leaderless, and refused to attack in fear of the death of their great engineer. Unbeknownst to the Chynrs, the dwarf they held captive was one of a handful that possessed the secrets to the success of the Dwarven airship. The leader, in fear for his people and his own life, promised to build King Gaius an unstoppable fleet of airships including bombers, frigates and a huge flagship in exchange for safe passage of himself and his people into an area in Glavendauxy of the Dwarven leader’s choosing.
Today, the remains of the Dwarves are hard at work building a new Lathaelian-backed city-state in a massive underground cavern somewhere underneath Glavendauxy, and the Chynrs hoard their new fleet from their enemies, at least until the fighting kicks off and they send them ripping across the skies to inspire terror in the heart of the outside world and establish Lathaelian dominance throughout the continent!
Take up arms and defend the great castle of Kingskeep or ride under the banner of Glavendauxy to raze the seat of House Chynr once and for all on the Tales of Runebrire server! (alpha launch date to be announced)
