La Renommee was one of the first modern frigates, she was fast, carried a single battery of 8 pounder guns, sleek with her profile low and snug to the water.

After a hand full of valiant actions, she fell in with the british 4th rate HMS Dover of 44 guns already damaged with several wounded she continued to fight for some hours before quitting the action.

Took into service for the Royal Navy as HMS Renown in 1748 she then fought in another series of actions along the French coast until in 1771 the ageing Frigate once the pride of a nation was broken up.
But still she did not die, her influence's on Frigate design would last for decades into the 1790s.
