For most of my builds that I've done, I've just flattened an area and built on top of that. I never thought about building /into/ a mountain without altering the mountain itself. In this build, which I did in creative, I've destroyed under 10 blocks of the land!
This is my first attempt at really building with the landscape so I hope you enjoy it!
Comments/suggestions/questions are most appreciated :)
In the world save, you spawn at the front of the base, which is at 169, -16 (in case you want to see the area before I touched it. It's a really cool place to start building!).

Additional Notes
I actually built this place in creative and am now living out of it in single player. So it's ready to go, if anyone's interested. In the world save, you spawn at the front of the base, which is at 169, -16 (in case you want to see the area before I touched it. Update #1 : by shirtandtieler 01/24/2013 2:05:05 pmJan 24th, 2013
Noticed that in the main entrance, there are two diagnol blocks that monsters can climb to get up even if the "defense system" is activated. It can be fixed by simply destroying theses two blocks. I have yet to change the world save, though....
