Part of the Failure Series, here's the Loot Towers!


Loot Towers is a mini-game, but not your typical mini-game. Loot Towers does not have a lobby to sit in to start a game, this game is a world-wide playable game. You could be 5,000 blocks away from the towers and still be participating!


Below is a list of information about Loot Towers, just about anything you want to know will be below. Anything marked in a dark red labeled (IMPORTANT!) is something you will certainly need to know about Loot Towers, anything not marked in that will not be necessary to run Loot Towers. If you have a question and there is no answer, you can leave a comment and I will
answer you.


How You Play

Playing is very simple, all you have to do is be in the same world as Loot Towers and be around 40 blocks outside the area while in survival mode to have the mobs spawn 40 blocks away from you. Only at nights do these mobs come out, and a warning will be broadcasted to the entire world informing you that 1 minute until nightfall comes, then another one that says night has come and the guardians are out. After night has ended, you will receive a message saying the night has come to an end and all guardians are gone, only at nights can you fight these guys.

The token guardians spawn to random players a total of 40 blocks away, and they spawn 100 blocks in the air (so they don't spawn inside structures), if you do not wish to fight these guys, just hide inside for the night as they can not get to you if you are closed off to the outside world. If you do want a good challenge and a chance of reward, you will have to constantly move at night to run into these guys, standing still is not likely to get you any action.

Unlike other mini-games, this one kind of forces you to play it, so if you want to quit, you'll have to leave the server for the night or hide away like a coward.


How to Manage Loot Towers

For server owners, you may want to make some changes to the Loot Towers mini-game, or even turn it off at times. I have made 5 levers that will pretty much control everything in the towers, when they levers are switched, a message will appear to everyone saying who has done what to Loot Towers. If any staff member or even some random player that manage to get in there won't be able to mess around without everyone knowing about it.

Below is a list of the levers and what they do.

We'll start from left to right, that puts us with the hard and easy lever. This lever will change the difficulty of the mobs, this is mostly self explanatory, but if you want to know more about them, information can be found in the 'Loot Towrs Guardians/Drop Table' section.

The night extender is a little more unique compared to most... well, anything, to be honest, I don't know if anyone else has tried something like this, but I did, and for good reason. Sometimes the nights aren't long enough to fight the guardians and extending the time of night from the default 10 minutes to 25 minutes long has solved this. You can easily switch it on or off anytime you want.

Now for the main lever, the on and off switch. This will shut down Loot Towers, it will place a gate on both entrances to keep players from entering, and even disable some active command blocks to reduce any lag that it may cause while off. No guardian will spawn while this lever is off.

The mob particles lever will disable all the particles around the guardians while they're out at night. This feature is not important to leave on as it is just for show, it is left off until it is turned on by a staff member, so if you want this feature, you will have to flip the switch once you place it in your world.

The tower particles is basically the same thing, though, this one uses a ton of command blocks and may be laggy for weaker servers. This switch is left off until turned on once Loot Towers is installed.


In the picture below, you will see a row of chest and command blocks with tokens on top.

Those chests will taken in a token each time to let you know how many times that token chamber has been looted. Below those chests are command blocks with buttons next to them, they will give you a full stack of tokens each time you press those buttons. The reason for that ability is so if the server staff/owner want to give out some free stuff to players, but be careful about some of the higher level tokens such as the onyx token. I highly recommend not giving out onyx tokens

If you are using Bukkit, then you probably haven't done this part because you don't consider command blocks to be necessary. But fear not, it is very simple, just look at the picture, at the part highlighted and just do as I have done.

Anti-Cheat System

I have spent the better part of a month designing a system that would be 100% cheat-proof, and I think I have achieved that. I will explain below how it is extremely difficult to even attempt to cheat with text and pictures.




If you don't have a token to the appropriate chambers, you don't get to even go in there! Some command blocks will add a score to the scoreboard if you have the right token to the right room, if you don't have a token, then the score counts down to 0, and when it reaches 0, you will be constantly teleported out of that room. The reason for this is to prevent someone from trying to take your token or be teleported to the room when they do not have it, yes, those who have a token can come in there with you, but so long as you don't miss when throwing the token, it will be taken by the hopper before anyone has a chance to pick it up.

If you're still worried about having your chance to grace the loot chambers, fear not, even the lowest token (topaz) doesn't come into the world so very commonly running into those who are about to use a token to loot the chambers isn't going to be very likely, especially for the high level tokens. If you do see someone in the room you are going to use, just wait a bit until they're done and you will be fine.





If you think you can set home in the chambers, or teleport a buddy once you're in there, think again! There are 2 different kind of systems for this, one is in constant activation testing for 2 or more players who are in adventure mode (if you're in survival, you'll automatically be placed in adventure while in Loot Towers) excluding those who may be in spectator mode or creative mode (server staff can watch the player without activating the command blocks so long as they are not in adventure mode). The other command block will turn off killing anyone in the room once a token is used, after 1 minute has passed, that command block will activate and if you have not looted a chest and just waited in there, you will die.






Now, if you think someone can just use one token to go in the chambers and another can follow them with a token, think again. Once a token is used in the chambers, everyone will have to wait one minute before they can enter the room.


Loot Tower Guardians/Drop Table

6 of 7 of these guardians wear the same armor just different color and different enchantment levels. Each of these these guys not only have a token, but their shields are slightly different and represent the chambers they guard. Every armor, shield and weapon piece the guardians have will drop at a 1/100 chance. Below are the guardians and the tokens, you can see what they look like and gather some information about the guardians.



Topaz

Topaz is the weakest of the bunch and the drop chance for his token is only 1/30. Having the Loot Towers set to either hard or easy doesn't change his power very much. He is a zombie and he spawns 12 times a night (41 times a night if the night extender is activated).


Sapphire

Sapphire is also a weak one, and his token is that of a low grade gem. When the difficulty of Loot Towers is left on hard, he will shoot tipped arrows of glowing for 7 minutes and slowness for 30 seconds. He is a skeleton and the drop chance for his token is 1/64, and he spawns 12 times a night (41 times a night if the night extender is activated).


Emerald

Emerald is the gem rankings of medium and the chance to get this one is 1/128. On the hard challenge of Loot Towers, smoke will be reducing your visual sight once you're within 10 blocks of this mob. The Emerald guardian is a pig zombie and will not attack unless you attack first (of course), and he spawns 9 times a night (31 times a night if the night extender is activated).


Ruby

The Ruby guardian is a zombie and in the hard challenge of Loot Towers, he will summon an average zombie when you come within 10 blocks of him. His drop chance for the ruby token is 1/266. Ruby spawns spawns 9 times a night (31 times a night if the night extender is activated).


Diamond

The Diamond guardian will summon fireballs if you are within 10 blocks of him. He is a pig zombie, the drop chance for his token is 1/512, and he spawns 7 times a night (25 times a night if the night extender is activated).


Onyx

Onyx is very strong and is not to be taken lightly when fighting him. When the Loot Towers is set on hard, he will shoot arrows tipped with levitation 25 seconds, 75 seconds of wither 2, and
hunger 100 for 10 seconds. The drop chance for his token is 1/1,000 and he spawns 7 times a night (25 times a night if the night extender is activated).

The Onyx chamber as mentioned contains 3 special books. These books contain spells, each one can cast 8 of them, each spell takes 5 minutes to recharge. They are as follows:



First Edition - Support magic

Support magic is only used to assist others in combat situations. The book itself can not attack other players, but it can boost the abilities of others around the caster to help in combat situations. The spells of the book will be listed below and what they do.



Biri Sho'tath - Speed level 2, 90 seconds to all around the caster in a radius of 10

Mronor Azirth - Jump level 2, 90 seconds to all around the caster in a radius of 10

Kalik Bormnos - Strength level 2, 90 seconds to 1 random person near the caster

Cos'zi Dororo - Health boost level 5, 5 minutes to one person near the caster

Hali Oro Domn - Healing cloud that regenerates you to max health for 10 seconds

Susunomin Kai - Saturation to all people around the caster in a radius of 10 (restores the food bar to max)

Drhozk Kaahln - Resistance level 10, 15 seconds to the caster only

Simmi Stalion - Summons the Stalion (horse with diamond armor)


Second Edition - Combat magic

Combat magic is only used for combat. Every spell in the is meant to hurt your enemies, but be careful, because casting spells from this book could not only hurt your enemies, but your allies as well. Below are the spells and what they do.



Infurciry Jyn - Summons a Ghast's fire ball to all players around the caster in a radius of 10

Surgent Kyian - Summons lightning to all players around the caster in a radius of 15

Balzin Chrozz - Sets fire to all players and mobs around the caster in a radius of 20

Simmi Brawzer - Summons a strong wolf named Brawzer to the caster (untamed)

Draknorsh Var - Blindness, for 15 seconds in a radius of 15 around the caster

Illsine Nevek - Nausea (dizziness) for 30 seconds in a radius of 15 around the caster

Oruv Diveraxx - Weakness for 1 minute in a radius of 15 around the caster

Straven O'Rum - Hunger level 4, 45 seconds in a radius of 15 around the caster

Third Edition - Skill magic

Skilling magic does not assist in combat of any kind. Skilling magic helps in survival situations and even just building. That being said skill magic is a spell book I consider the most dangerous for a server as it contains a spell to destroy all blocks in a 10x10x10 area, but it can not activate this spell within 500 blocks of the Loot Towers. It is best to place Loot Towers next to the spawn to prevent destruction; however, there is an option when you first put in Loot Towers to remove the spell books and leave the rest of the onyx room intact. Choosing that option will disable the command blocks that activate the spells, and the books will be removed from the loot chests permanently; to reinstate these spell books if you have chosen to remove them will require you to put Loot Towers back in the game. Below will be the spells and what they do (all spells cast to the user only).



Xaluim Sasuno - Level up (gives 1 level to your current level)

Travz Nor'iar - Haste level 12, 5 minutes

Gaia Zozuvorz - Plant kit (gives 2 chests of every single type of plant in the game in a stack of 10)

Bish Zintrova - 10 golden rails will drop on the ground to your feet

Simi Orvazara - Summons an anvil

Denshine Tato - Enchants any tool with silk touch (spell takes 10 seconds to activate after casting it to give yourself a chance to hover over the item you wish to enchant)

Loluran Diset - Drops many spawn eggs to your feet (all non-aggressive mobs excluding slime)

Gom Galra Dom - Destroys every single block in a 10x10x10 area from where you stand



Command Blocks

This mini-game uses a great deal of command blocks, around 40% of them are in constant activation (running commands 20 times a second), and may not be ideal for low-end servers. A total of 1,539 command blocks are in this build, but about 30 of them will be deleted after you have fully setup the game. Around 35% of these command blocks just run special effects like rotating the tokens and particle effects, leaving the lever for the particles on off will basically cut out 35% usages of the mini-game; great for not so strong servers.

Loot Towers has been one of the best things I've ever made. I don't think I have put so much time and effort into a single project like this before. Hell, I've spent 2½ months working on this, putting in 412 hours! But all that being said, I have planned on this being the final project I ever make. For a long time now, I've tried to have minecraftmaps take in just 1 of my projects, but they have not. I'm going to make Loot Towers my final attempt, and if they deny it, I will quit building forever. I'll still play the game, but not as a builder.
