Foliage and Athmosphere Masterclass at the Minecraft Builders Convention 2019

What a long and unpronouncable title.
This Project includes the download for my MCBCon Masterclass this year. There are several showcases and examples on how you can utilize trees and plants to create a realistic and fitting athomssphere for your build. will briefly go over them the explain what's going on here.

But before that I would liek to thank everyone who has seen the masterclass and for the great feedback. Maybe we'll see each other next year again :)

(Note: the numbers shown here explaisn whats going with the ingame numbers, and do not represent the number of the screenshot shown above)

1) This is a realistic forest edge in an area mostly untouched by humans. Trees and bushes create a slope from the forest center to open areas. In the center, trees in general have to grow taller as they need that to get acces to more light.

2) Here, a forest edge in a rather low area, modified by humans. This landscape is kind of inspired by the so called "Frankenwald" in the south f Germany. Here, two things can be seen: frist, the edge of the forest is very rapid, there are alomost no bushes. The varity of different types of trees is almost non existant and there are only a few bushes at the edge. The second thing seen here, is the fact, that in low areas, forests grow right up to the river. Which emphasizes that this forest is not located in a mountainous area.

3) The 3rd plot represents also two things: firstly, it can be seen, who layers are formed in forests, there are the tall old trees, but also younger trees that make up a second layer. This effect is better known in jungles, yet can also be seen in any other forest. The second thing I wanted to show here, is the placement of grass and bushes,spots with less trees make taller gras possible on the ground as more light will reach it.

4) Some small examples on which trees would fit a certain architectual style. Chossing the right trees for the right project is extremely important to make your project consistant. Also only use trees of a similar detailing etc. next to each other as the visuals of your project will fall apart otherwise. The houses shown here are by Zinjoo and 7uva

5&6) You can use trees to make a visitor focus on your build by using trees as a guidance for the eye. An easy example is shown here. The cypresses guide the player along the diamond lines towards the center, the bushes behind them frame the edges of the build and tall decidous trees fill the back to create more athmossphere. The front is open and the central detail is a circle of 2 block high flowers instead of some sort of statue in order to not block the few on the building. The house is made by HerrCules.

7)This is a full example on athmosphere and composition of builds. To keep this short: Only two different types of trees are needed here to create (hopefully) good athomosphere. Small bushes frame the houses. There is gravel around the river to show this is loaceted on a high elevation. Detail and flowers are used in similar ways as in the houses. Thanks to the houses to TiruYueru

8) A combination of what is shown before. There is only one new thing to mention here. It requires some practice, but you can use the same houses and put them into different enviroment to create vastly different vibes. The right athmossphere is vital for making a build look good. The house is by SirLarix.

As this was only a short overview, you can see the full masterclass here. There are a lot more explainations and examples to be seen here.

As soon as I made it, I will add a some links here for short explanations on th commands I used.

PS: as long as you have access to (probably up tp 1.12 FAWE) select the weird layer with various blocks under each eaxample and use this command to put in the biomes:
//rep #mask[41][$desert][#mask[133][$plains][#mask[35:12][$mesa][#mask[35:13][$roofed_forest][#mask[174][$frozen_ocean][#mask[129][$taiga][#mask[56][$forest][#mask[35:5][$jungle][#mask[22][$swampland][#existing]]]]]]]]]
