This is a continuation of my previous project "Medieval Home - Progress 1."

A small castle on a cliff side.

I will continue to post my progress on this map I am making. Eventually I will make a whole city.

In the fourth image you catch a glimpse of a house - that's the medieval home in my progress 1 build.

This isn't a castle. It's quite good, but not a castle.

I see what you mean.. but by definition it can be a castle. I plan on expanding it into a set of similar structures. Thankyou for the compliment though!

No, a castle is a very specific type of medieval structure, this building could be a palace section of a city or castle, but it just flat out, isn't a castle. To be a castle means more than just going through the motions and adding crenelations and using stone brick. A castle is a medieval fortress, guarded from attack by battlements. You have a good location for a castle, but the building you built isn't made to be defensible, it is made to look pretty... Which is does a fine job at.

If you'd like to get a sense of what I mean, I'd be happy to demonstrate what a castle, on that exact same location, with the exact same floor plan, would look. Would you be up to letting me do that?

If you could pm me the world link.

That being said, this is trying to be constructive critique. Please don't take this as a simple, you're doing it wrong, let me do it better. I actually want to help you get better at building castles.
  • Location. A high defensible area, make sure the castle is the tallest structure around. If you find a rock formation. generally extreme hills, or plains is best for castles.
  • Clear away trees, they provide cover for the enemy.
  • When building the floor plan, no curving walls, straight walls only, and make sure to add either a tower or bastion every so often on the wall, on every corner as well. It should be so that from each tower or bastion, you can shoot to the other one with a bow.
  • When building your floor plan, separate sections of the inner area of the castle into different areas, or baileys. The smallest area that is closest to the center, should be the keep.
  • When making the walls, remember proper battlements: crenelations and machicolations. Crens should be two blocks high, and to be safe with machs you can add iron bars.
  • roofs of castles are always circular, this is so they can deflect off fire from siege engines.

I understand that it looks nothing like a castle and couldn't even function as one.. but if you look up the definition it can qualify, lmao. I'm not trying to be a smart ass - just humorous. If you would like to see a castle, look at Praesidium on my profile. Or perhaps fort Nemo.
