When making maps and using locked chests it is a good idea to name the chests.
Place in an anvil and name it . It makes adventure maps a lot more enjoyable for example if you name a chest -say, dungeon 1 chest of shadows, the chest will say dungeon 1 chest of shadows is locked when you click on it. If you use something like a tripwire hook as the key and name it in an anvil -dungeon 1 chest of shadows key. Then it is easy to know what key is for what chest. And makes adventuring for other people fun and makes your maps seem more professional.
This is the command /blockdata ~ ~ ~1 {Lock:"Name of chest"}
