Limit the wool, when using wool it looks more 'unprofessional'. Use materials that are hard to get in Survival, it makes it more extravagant. Instead of wool, use colored clay, it adds a better feel. And make the names (above the portals) out of netherbrick, it will look for off which is great. Here's a list of Minecraft Alphanumerics:
