The Panavia Tornado is a family of twin-engine, variable-sweep wing multirole combat aircraft, jointly developed and manufactured by Italy, the United Kingdom and West Germany.

The original conception of the Tornado was to destroy Soviet ground targets in the forest of Germany and the Soviet Union. If the death star was real, this would be the plane Luke Skywalker would take to destroy it.

The Tornado saw action in the 1991 Gulf War and was commonly described as ‘Europe’s Spear’. In 2009, the Tornado took over from the Harrier in intelligence gathering for the Coalition. Due to its extreme versatility it survived in Royal Air Force service until being retired in 2019. It was replaced by the F-35 Lighting II.
