Civic monument in Paris, France. Originally built as a cathedral dedicated to Saint Genevieve, the patron saint of Paris, and began construction in 1758. When the Panthéon was finished in 1791, the French Revolution was underway, and the building was converted to a mausoleum to hold the remains of distinguished French citizens, a purpose it has retained to this day.
