A more compact version of my piston ground door found here: Piston Ground Door v1 Please check it out for more information on this device.
The main difference of this version is the use of slab ladders in place of blocks to power the doors and a smaller Length and height. I shortened the length of the stairs, moved the inside pressure plates closer to the door, then I moved the T Flip-Flop closer to those pressure plates and moved it's power source up by 1 block. Then I was able to move the locking mechanism closer, rotate it and shorten it and use torches in places of blocks to save space.

The locking mechanism is there to prevent mobs/other players from opening the doors while you're home and attacking you/annoying you.
If you can make it use less redstone while still using pressure pads that act as levers and a locking mechanism while either using the same or less space, please share. I'd be interested in seeing it. Feel free to use the schematic I provided.
unlocked and closed and when I step on the pressure pads, the piston that holds the sand up fire rapidly and doesn't pull the gold block back down. Probably just a timing issue.
