Original Post:
I know this project has been done like a million times already, but I've never really found a hogwarts build that satisfied me. So I'm doing my own.

At this stage I'm working on V2 of my castle, starting with the version from the sixth movie. Besides that, I'm also starting to create the terrain surrounding the castle using 3D geometry from various shooting locations in Scotland.

Further plans:
- Hogwarts interior
- Hogsmaede village
- Glenfinnan viaduct
- Ruins in the lake
- Hogwarts surrounding wall
- Hagrids hut

There's still a lot to do as you can see.

Update 19 : by ZombieCrafter6 07/27/2024 11:14:37 amJul 27th, 2024

New update, yay. I decided to do some more experimenting with the terrain, and I've come up with a combination of various bits of the real world locations that were used as the terrain around the castle in the movies. I got some contour lines of Scotland from the Ordnance Survey, took all the parts I needed and converted them to height maps. I then erased, rotated and scaled them, before fitting them together. The resulting height map provided the basis for the terrain in Worldpainter. Currently the terrain is still quite messy and there's still a lot of editing to do, but I think it's fun to show the process. The current terrain consists of Loch Shiel on the eastern end of the lake, Loch Morar on the western end, Glencoe to the north of the castle and a few other bits. Most of the terrain is at 25% scale on the x- and z-axes and 37.5% scale on the y-axis, since I think works a lot better with Minecraft's render distance that way.
Concerning the terrain, I've attached a download link to the world with the terrain I just described, with V2 of the castle with the photogrammetry terrain placed where it should be in the terrain when it's all done. The world is quite messy though, but I figured maybe someone would find it fun to see. I've also updated the image gallery with some images of the new terrain.
Besides that I also made some progress on my V3 of the castle, but I'm not ready to show that yet, since I want to get at least the HP6 version of it done before sharing it. [edit: I added an updated image of the V3 progress anyway, cuz if felt like it. it's not much different from the previous one tho lol]
In other news, I'll probably be back in ca 1-2 business years.

No, unfortunately I haven't added any of the common rooms to the interior yet. I'm trying to get the exteriors done first.

I'm working on the castle rather slowly lately. I've been quite busy the last few months. I'm building the terrain around the boathouse stairs at the moment.

My favorite version would eithet be the one from HP2 or HP3. I like the chamber of reception better than the viaduct courtyard or entrance courtyard. But I also like both the clock tower and the training grounds, which don't appear on one version of the castle together.
Which version is your favorite?

I really love the 6th and the 7th version :)
I just love the eerie feel they radiate!

Tho they heavily once again changed the layout for HP7.

I really like your version of Hogwarts! In my opinion most versions, while they may be accurate to the movies, have the castle being way too big, but you seem to have found a very fitting scale. I very much hope that you'll build the interiors as well :D
