This is a little proof of concept. Redstone is transmitted down a 1-wide redstone line from one of 5 pressure plates... the device knows which one. Feel free to use it in any device you like, so long as I get some credit. It works on the fact that redstone can only travel 15 blocks.

How does it work? Does it use the wire distance to limit itself?

Yeah. The light corresponding to the farthest distance it can reach will light up and block all the nearer ones.

Cause I was thinking of a system that would use a single line, where two inputs would have a difference in pulse duration, and the outputs would be activated when the correct duration was sent. But with the hassle of both trying to get this work, as well as how much needed to go into the outputs, the system didn't justify itself
