RMS Cardiff was a steamship put into service in 1913 with an impressive maritime history. The British vessel, originally designed as an ocean liner, had a length of 214 meters. It was powered by two propellers driven by steam turbines, which received their steam from 24 boilers.

During its civilian service, the Cardiff provided luxurious accommodations for passengers in three different classes.
During the First World War, the Cardiff was used as a hospital ship. In 1917, she struck a sea mine, but survived and was repaired at the SBC shipyard and returned to service as a hospital ship.


After the First World War, she was again used as a luxury liner. In 1921, the ship was converted to oil firing and modernized. She was modernized again in 1930.


However, its role changed during World War II when it was converted into a troop carrier. Its purpose now was to transport soldiers and ammunition.


Unfortunately, in 1942, the Cardiff was attacked by a torpedo off the British coast. To prevent it from sinking completely, the captain decided to steer the ship onto a sandbank. Evacuation measures were taken to ensure the safety of the crew and the soldiers on board at that time.

Despite these rescue efforts, the Cardiff was later bombed by German forces to prevent the ship from being salvaged. This tragic incident marked the end of a remarkable era for RMS Cardiff.
