Launched in 1720, Sceptre is generally considered the 1st 74 gun ship, while not much different than her earlier 70 gun counterparts, Sceptre had an extra 4 guns stationed on her roundhouse, thus bringing her armament up to 74 guns, at 161 ft on her gundeck and 44 ft on her beam she wasn't the most impressive 3rd rate the french had built in terms of size. but despite this she was a more modern design and was considered a benchmark for the next 20 years of french naval design. Sceptre didn't have a distinguished career, infact I couldn't find anything on it, More the reason why I built it, because this ship is the grandfather of all 74 gun ships after it. And thus deserves to be remembered.
