The Singer Building, City Investing Building, Chemical Bank & Trust Building, Bourne Building, and 2 tenement buildings make up the plot between Broadway, Church Street, Cortlandt Street, and Liberty Street. The Singer Building stood tallest in the world, surpassing the Park Row Building and was succeeded by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Building in Midtown Manhattan. The Singer Building stood at 187 meters tall, and was topped by a 19 meter flagpole, bringing the tip to 206 meters. The City Investing Building was 148 meters tall. All of these buildings have been demolished in order for One Liberty Plaza to be built. They were demolished due to the change in demand of open floor office spaces, which none of the buildings originally had. One Liberty Plaza has more than double floor space than all of the original buildings combined.
