Is it run from home? If it is, it makes the server easy to control and more secure. As in, if one of your ops tries to take over the server, you can type the op/deop commands from the console. And as a bonus, you can use MCEdit on most worlds of a home-run server. Which means you are able to post schematics of objects made on your server.
