Stratum is a PvP survival concept looking to achieve maximum creativity along with unlimited possibility for the player. Currently designed to host 8 teams.
The map contains 7 zones, 4 x Zone 1, 2 x Zone 2, and 1 x Zone 3. There are 3 progressive elimination rounds where you will face new challenges and environments as well as a new opposition.
The First Round:
The first round consists of 4 games, one in each of the first zones. Each teams aim is to eliminate the other team in their zone. Once one team from each of the four zones is eliminated, the winning teams advance to the second round. You cannot leave your zone until all four zones have a winner ready to advance. However, eliminating your opponent early means you can continue to plan and gather your equipment and tactics whilst you wait for the next round to begin.
The Second Round:
Once the first round is complete and 4 winners are announced (1 from each of the first zones), the host will give a 15 second countdown to commence the second round of which consists of 2 seperate matches in zones 2. You must NOT enter the second zone until the host gives the instruction. In the second round you will once again go head to head with another team who were victorious in their first zone match. You may take with you all that you can carry from the first zone. Again, only once both maches have winners and the host has given a 15 second countdown may you enter the final round.
The Third (and final) Round:
After round two finishes, the two winners will go head to head in the final round in zone 3 to decide the Victor of Stratum. In all 3 rounds the same rules as described below apply.
The Zones:
Zone 1:
The 4 zones that make up zone 1 are identical. They are relatively flat forest areas. There are 2 starting areas on opposite corners of the map for the two teams to start in. The area is a completely natural 120x120 block chunk except for the following additions to create diversity -
- 3 pumpkin forests (each with 1 single melon block)
- 2 snow covered areas
- 2 small damaged minecart tracks (with 1 minecart each)
- 1 small sand area with cactus
- 1 patch of soulsand
There are NO hidden chests, or loot. You start with nothing and must survive on your own knowledge and creativity.
Zone 2:
The 2 zones that make up zone 2 are also identical to each other. Again 120x120 natural block chunk but with a river and canyon surface. The additional content to these areas are as follows -
- 1 small derelict watch tower
- 2 man made caves (small)
- 4 chests
- 1 enchantment table
- 1 brewing stand
Zone 3:
The single zone 3 is where the final round takes place. This zone is a solid stone 150x150 chunk with a town placed on top. The buildings contain various basic decor and occasional chests/furnaces/etc...
To one side of the zone the spawn area is attached with a viewing window for the dead players.
RULES:
- Players must NOT enter a zone until the host instructs them too.
- Players must NOT return to a previous zone (or starting area) after leaving it.
- All players start the game with NO ITEMS or XP.
- You must not build on, over, above, or destroy, or leave the bedrock wall/floor boundaries.
- Once dead you must NOT interfere with the game.
- You must remain in your zone until the host starts the next round.
- You can continue mining, crafting, gathering resources and equipment whilst waiting for the next round to begin.
- Before the next round begins the host should give a warning of a 15 second countdown to reach the entrance. Only once the 15 second countdown reaches 0 and the host announces the round has begun, may you enter the next zone.
HOST RULES:
- Monster Spawning should be turned ON.
- Place each team in a seperate starting platform at the entrances to zones 1.
- To start the game, give a 15 second countdown.
- Before the countdown set the time to the start of the day. (Single player command: /time day)
- Once each round is finished, immediately begin the countdown for the next round.
- Disable Nether.
This version requires testing and feedback in order to improve, balance and update and to develop future versions. Please feel free to provide input and advice on what you want to see.
The map is not powered by redstone to start the game or subsequent rounds in order to minimise lag. The size of the map would require enourmous amounts of wiring to connect all the starting areas to one switch for the host. This added to the idea that player honesty is required in things redpower can't control makes the simple start mechanism in tune with the rest of the rules. If you cheat and leave your area early you'll probably cheat in other ways anyway.
The map is recommended for 8 teams of 2 players (1-4 per team is feasible however)
