When Planet Minecraft announced they were doing a contest for a Survival Games Map, I just had to give it a try, but when it came that the entry date for the contest was over and I had barely finished the cornucopia for the map, I realized this would be a longer than one week project. Now, over a month later, the map is finally in a playable state and so that means it's ready for beta testing. So without further adieu, I give you;
A map based around a swamp based biome and ancient ruins, I have created a custom designed jungle-swamp for the players to traverse through, complete with custom giant trees and areas that are completely submerged. To act as the center of interest in the map I have scattered minecraft recreations of ancient greek and roman statues all designed approximately around 200-250 CE. I chose this date as it was a peak in classical sculpture and art and has created many of the monumental sculptures we think of today when we think of ancient greece and ancient rome. Among the statues represented on this map are Atlas, holding between his shoulders the cornucopia where the players will spawn, Heracles, in his more classical position holding a lump of soil and a large coiling root for the players to climb up, Hades and Ceberus, overlooking the flooded areas of the map, and Poseidon, posing valiantly with his trident in the central oceans of the map. Each statue contains either around it or within it a unique challenge that could richly award the players or leave them trapped, leading to plenty of interesting and complex gameplay. There is also a large underground maze structure (based on the ancient roman sewer system), that connects two corners of the map, marked by two models of the house of the oracle of Delphi.
