In the part of the nether where Steve landed, there was flying platforms, higher in technology than what Steve had reach to travel in the space. But there was nobody, no sign of life. The tear made by the explosion of steve's ship might have kill every living beings. After studying all the platforms, Steve collected a lot of information. It was a mining colony created by an humanoid race. There was different type of flying platform: teleportation stations, terraformating stations, mining stations and stations to build new stations. The terraformating stations were using water on lava to create obsidian and stone.
Steve searched how those platforms could fly and find out that quatrz were use. Quartz was mined in the same area. It was use also for a portal above a volcano. The portal wasn't open at the moment of the arrival of Steve, but since few days, the portal is activated, maybe the empire is coming for his colony.
