So, I've built ships before and had an idea today to build an airship, loosely based on storm-chasers featured in The Edge Chronicles. This ship has taken me about 2 hours to build so far and I have featured some pictures from both the interior and exterior to give you a vague idea of what's going on.
The basis for the ship is that the rock that acts as the centre for the ship is the buoyancy aid, the rock infact floats, and it's buoyancy increases as it is cooled down and decreases as it is warmed. Effectively cool it to fly up and heat it to sink down. There are small weight counterbalances to aid with steering the vessel that are found on the back and centre of the ship hanging from the base, and multiple sails around the ship help with speed and direction.
I may decide to add a port-like structure around the ship so it appears as if the ship is docking, I'll make this decision when I have finished this project and added more decoration to the exterior of the ship as I know that at the moment it looks largely unimpressive!

Also, in terms of building a map weetle, I may consider it but it has been a long time since I read the books (5-6 years maybe now?) so my memory is rusty, but I will most likely expand the builds I do based on discworld on this map, so I'll keep you posted!
does anyone know of another the egde chronicles inspired build?
