The Free City of Braavos is a massive project with absolutely tons of planning behind it. We have chosen to go public with this early on as a way to keep track of progress and make sure goals are continued to be set and reached. The project is always looking for more help, but as a protective measure to the massive project in a strive to prevent any griefing or accidental harm, we won't be doing too much building in the world itself. That said, most of the building will be done in other worlds, but that will be explained later. The overall build in which all finished products end up in will be referred to here commonly as 'Project Braavos'.

The Start of Project Braavos

As a massive fan of the Game of Thrones franchise, particularly the lore, I really enjoy digging into the different places and people of the Known World and exploring the lore of it all, and upon reading about Braavos and seeing all of the fan-art that was made and all of the theories behind it and so forth, I quickly became, for a lack of a better word, attached to Braavos. The Braavosi culture, from its republic-styled political system to its architecture and engineering, seem fascinated. Only so briefly touched on officially by George R.R. Martin, Braavos already has so many features and places and characters that make it truly feel like a one-of-a-kind place. There's likely been dozens of Minecraft builds on places like King's Landing, Whiterun, maybe even Oldtown or Pentos, and even Braavos, but of every location worth building in Minecraft, Braavos is the only one that, no matter how many times it could be possibly done, I'd want to build it. Thus, Project Braavos was born.

Arriving in Port

I cannot deny it; this project is ambitious. Very ambitious. It is without a doubt, by far, the biggest thing I have and ever will build in Minecraft. The Titan alone is a sub-project that I personally would take eons to finish. But that does not diminish the long term goal. With the help of some friends I've met along the ways, and definitely with the support and help of the beautiful people of Planet Minecraft, and only with that help, will this project finish or even get anywhere close to completion. Because of this, I will be requesting submissions from the Minecraft community--anything from a ship to a crypt. The most fluent, loyal, and able builders who the team can trust will be permitted access to team-builds for the colossal projects such as the Titan of Braavos, Drowned Town, and so forth.

undefined

The Pitch

Credit should always be given where credit is rightfully due. Every builder who's submissions are accepted and used in Project Braavos will be credited--it can even be for a simple house--and the more dedicated builders (those who go above and beyond and create important builds and do them well) will be given more credit for it. When Project Braavos is finished in however long it may take, and the world is given to the public, a "hall of fame" so to speak will form the spawn of the map, where every contributor in order of contribution will be listed. Additionally, credit will be posted here. That said, joining this project for the credits and prestige is not why you should join. You should only contribute if you geniunely want to help. The goal is to create the best final product, one which is explorable and worth spending hours on with always something available to enjoy.

Joining Project Braavos

I am going to state it now in hopes of never again having to. This is 100% for non-profit. Joining this project will not necessarily mean you will be paid, and it absolutely does not mean you have to pay. By all means, contributors of this project should be rewarded, and for that reason I will be posting links upon contributors' request at which anyone can donate to the contributors of the project individually based on their contributions--in other words, like how ____ built ____? Then why not donate to them directly? That said, there will be no middleman in continuing this project. This is a community project, not a team-project or a solo-project. And it certainly isn't Communist Russia.

With that out of the way and stated clearly, joining is quite simple. Submit some of your work that you feel you're most proud of, or that you feel fits the Westeressos feel, to Sealord Antaryon on Planet Minecraft with the subject "Braavos Submission" and a download to your build (builds that are not near spawn and have no explination of how to get to from spawn will be ignored). Then, wait. It can be several days, even weeks, before you may hear back, so don't fret if you don't get an immediate response. For the people who are confident and excited about the project, but want to know where to start immediately, send a message to Sealord Antaryon with the subject "Build Options" to recieve a list of builds that allow us to get an immediate sense of your building skills and where you could best contribute to Project Braavos. If you have any questions regarding the building/submitting process or the project in general, feel free to ask through a message, as I will only be posting in the comments on this page for questions that require quick and simple answers.

Onward from here, Cap'n!

Project Braavos is in development and making progress every day. Please help out in the simplest of ways by sharing this page with your friends, families, pets, co-workers, and the sickly. Except the greyscales. They can stick to the Sorrows and out of Braavos. To keep up with the development of the project, be sure to check back here every few days--who knows, maybe you might get some inspiration along the way for your personal projects--and I will be sure to update this page regularly with more and more content as progress is made.

Quick Word on the Research Department

All research done for Project Braavos is based on the books, illustrations, and "upcoming" episodes from the series. A ridiculous amount is confirmed and expanded thanks to the work done on A Wiki of Ice and Fire at awoiaf.westeros.org. However, if you have any information, theories, or ideas on the lore of Braavos (history, buildings, people, etc.), by all means, contact us on Project Minecraft with a subject along the lines of "Braavosi Lore".

Progress

While this is not a 100% accurate representation, here is a display of general process made thus far.

Researching and Planning - 80% (?)
Landscaping - 95%
Building - 0%
Detailing and Polishing - 0%
Winning - 100%

(?) = This is assuming that what we know about Braavos is all there is to Braavos (officially)

Changelog

-0.1 Finished structure of the main Braavosi islands and made a plan for major buildsites
-0.2 Polished some areas of the islands and began work on the outer land strips
-0.2.5 Water and Earth! The land and water surrounding the city is now complete, fit with biomes
(
pine and forest for the land surrounding the city itself and swamp for the water)

Updates will arrive anywhere between a few days to a couple weeks. Stay tuned!

I'd like to specify that Mr. Bold's Project Braavos is not related to this one, it was an older project that, as far as I know, is discontinued. For those interested, you can find that project here, though it does seem closed and with no mentioning of it continuing.

The map has been put under some serious reconstruction for the benefit of the project long term. A lot of things have been expanded, reshaped, and redone, with many new areas being added as well, including the sea bank of the Braavosi Marshes. The Isle of the Gods above everything else recieved a massive improvement, meaning the semi-large builds there wont be crammed in and desperate for breathing room. All in all, the hidden lagoon is looking much better. Screenshots will be up tomorrow, and more updates soon after that!
