The Gate of Styx
Aderlyon's Halloween Event Build is inspired by the Styx River that is featured in Greek mythology. The river is located in the underworld and is said to be the littered with Wraiths - deceased people who were unable to cross the treacherous river to get to the gates, named Taenarum, it is said that the deceased must journey across the river on a boat that is ferried by Charon. If the deceased were unable to pay the correct fee to Charon, they were forced to wander to banks of the river Styx as ghost-like Wraiths for the rest of eternity.
To fully capture the demonic landscapes of the underworld and the Styx River, our team started work on constructing representations of each part of the Styx River's great legend. Many hours of work went into the creation of the large cave that the Styx River would flow through, to the gloomy, sombre gates that lead to Hades. Many small organics were added to show just how the lifeless crowd had waited for Charon to take them across to the Taenarum gates.
The team also began work on other structures that would exhibit the journey the recently deceased would endure to get to the underworld. The build showcases a grand church and grim graveyard that join onto the pathway down to the cave that hosts the Styx River. Many recently departed people are shown to be walking this pathway towards where they will eventually reside for eternity.
Although many members of our team participated in this group project, we would like the credits for the build to go towards our team members Rupert, Improvised, Aquaflow and the two build leads who lead this project - MrMagicBlox and Eith.
